Am I a fussy eater?

Oh man... I have been going through this with my daughter for years now. She loves fresh foods like fruit and veg which is fantastic but there are some things that she won't have. Recently sneaked mushroom into her favourite tuna lasagna and won that round by asking her if she liked it then showing her the shrooms after she said it was delicious. I won the food battle but I think I lost a little bit of trust in doing so...

Haha, I was going to suggest that your wife try this technique with you...

Looking at it again: I think it is the pit issue that all of the blakclisted foods share, maybe this is the overarching condition?
I am well known for my hatred for strawberries in my household and a pomegranate is a surefire way to ruin my day.

I don't think you are fussy, I think you have psychological issues.

OK, so consensus is that I am indeed a fussy eater - I'll tell my wife the internet agrees with her.

I don't think it is as serious as psychological 'issues' like - I was never abused by an olive or anything... I just have a feeling about certain things that I trust when it tells me I will not enjoy eating these things.

Slinky! You're missing out!

Oh well, more for me :D

For the record I love olives, jams, berries and pears are decent, but not something I'll hunt down. Ever tried Gorgonzola? It's fantastic on pizza with peppadews and garlic! I love food and if you learn to have an adventurous palate the world is your... erm.. oyster! :D

You're hearing voices now too? I think we've found the synasthesic connection. Or at least the psychological one...

I love me some gorgonzola but tend toward good 'ol buffalo mozz on my pizza. Peppadews are an old favourite :) ...ahh Butlers, how you titillated my palate back in the day.

@DJ: imagining walking down the isle where olives are to be found in the supermarket... "Wait... did you hear that?? OMG! DID YOU HEAR THEM???
...then smashing all the jars to 'set them free' :D

Olives are the worst :/
Have never had fishpaste and I dont think I ever will.
Marmite is also horid

I almost forgot spinach ..

The next time you're walking down the olive aisle and hear Queen's I Want To Break Free, remember that it's not the olives, it's just the in-store music station. Much the same as it's not Susan the All Gold jam advertising tiger prawns for the next hour at R99-00 a kilo. That woman is real and she works for the store you're at at the time.

Constructive advice: you can find it on mybroadband...

So Mike, how much would you need to be paid to eat a mango stuffed with olives and capers?

Does anyone else have an aversion to certain foods despite never having eaten them?

Paw Paw
Sweet Potato:erm:

I've never eaten them but even the thought of it makes me feel funny.

Avocados - I don't like them and a friend snuck some into a meal we had at her home. I got sick that night and I didn't even know I'd eaten it till She told me a week later after finding out I got sick:(

My grandparents cannot understand that I just don't want to eat them.

I love fish paste. I just had some on toast half an hour ago.
I don't like olives.
I hate brussel sprouts

Other than this I eat basically anything.

There are some foods that I have never liked my whole life, but as I got older I started enjoying it. Like spinach, pumpkin, mussels and avo. There are still some things I cannot bare to eat- like liver  and brussel sprouts.

I have tried to eat liver many times but I just can't stand the taste. I don't think you're a fussy eater. If you don't like something after trying it many times then you just don't and there's nothing you can do about it.

It also depends a lot how someone prepares certain foods. Sometimes a person would prepare something I'd normally like in a strange way that I cannot stomach the texture/taste/smell.

I think it's pretty normal.

Nah, my list of things not to eat is much longer. Can probably name the fruit/veggies I do eat and not get over 20 items, probably not even 15 :D

I won't touch kippers because I dislike fish and the strong odour makes me ill.

Other than that I'll try just about anything once except for fois gras and other exotic organs like brain, etc.

Fussy eater. Definitely.
How can you say you don't like the food if you have never tried it?
You should go and sit in the corner until you have finished all the food you mentioned, or you can have it for supper as well, and if not finished then, breakfast tomorrow.

I used to hate olives & spinach when younger, now I love them. I've always loved marmite.

Eish, I would hate to not have discovered the many foods I enjoy today.
