Currently have an Amarok, not sure weather I should buy a newer Amarok or Isuzu x- Rider

Any users of the X-Rider can share some insights?

There's a new Isuzu coming soon. Wait for that.

Need to buy something now,
Hilux is way out of budget.

Depending on what you want to do.
If you are only going to drive around towns & cities (tar roads) the Amarok would be a good choice, but if you are intending to do work with the vehicle and go off-road the Isuzu is your best choice.
Personally I would go for the Isuzu either way.

Here is my personal opinion on these

Hi lux is overpriced and there quality has slowly deteriorated, they have gone soft. Still the hi lux cant pass the moose test. Not sure if current model was tested.

Amarok is a good bakkie but also very expensive. Drives like a big car. Very comfy. not a real workers bakkie

Izuzu is the only real workers bakkie. you can load it. drive it over bad terrain and it will keep going.

Ranger mmmmm well I am not sure I trust ford after all the failures and refusal to recall. The new 2.2 bi turbo still need to proof reliability. I have a feeling this might not be the case.

One more thing I should have said I stay in rural area, so I use the vehicle as a long distance vehicle family vehicle mostly on tar roads, but I do use it to load goods from Jhb on the way back home

Then the Isuzu is the best choice I would say.

"Workhorse" rating aside, I'm not sure I would pick the Isuzu over the Amarok for off-roading. I've taken an Amarok on a 4x4 obstacle course (granted, it was not the most extreme course I've ever seen) and it completely changed my opinion about the vehicle. They are very, very capable, and the ride is comfy.

Too bad Isuzus styling isnt that great, otherwise it would be the best of the lot for the price. That being said the new hilux doesn't look that great either. Wish we got the Chevrolet Colorado (which is basically just that Isuzu with a better looking nose.)

According to Isuzu sales person only coming in 2022 or 2023,
Test drove the Xrider yesterday, that thing is sluggish.
Won’t be able to survive the long trips with that power.

I would take that info with a pinch of salt. The local plant already got approval to build the new model here for local & export. Personally I say we should see some action late 2020.

I can't believe no-one has suggested the new Tesla bakkie

If it were me, I would look at an Amarok but I love VAG products and have a good support system for parts, maintenance and mechanical repairs.
