I thought, when I discovered myadsl iburst forum, I had come to a constructive community, but on arrival and looking in from time to time I have come across a badly managed forum where whining seems to be the theme.

I left these forums when a huge fight broke out amongst certain forum members. The fight was caused, by what I can see, some people complaining about Iburst speed issues. Most of these members were telling the other complaining members to take a hike and find another service that is better.

Amazing how these forum members who were telling others to take a hike are the same ones complaining about being suspended.

Now these same ‘Network Abusers’ then want to start an all out war with WBS because of their selfish greed. Granted WBS were unprofessional but for the majority of users who were suffering, like me, truly do not care about your grievances. Speed has radically improved for me and I am happy about the hard approach WBS took.

They are not in breach of contract. You are abusing the network and actually they can do exactly what they did. Bear in mind you do not own the network, it’s there network and NOT everyone was suspended, just the “Network Abusers” Think of it as a Right of Admission reserved.

The same people who told others who complained a while back to take a hike and find another service. I have some a suggestion based on your very own advice. Find another internet provider.

I understand that not everyone who was suspended was suspended justifiably, but if the only way for WBS to sort out their problem for 95% of users was to cut out the 5% cancer then do it by all means necessary.

I am very interested to see how many people, who said they are canceling, are truly going to cancel and I am more intrigued to see how many court cases arise from this.

My bet: zero.

I know WBS is not that professional, like many other South African broadband suppliers which is no excuse, but please understand that ‘Network Abuse’ is what ruined my internet experience and right now I am getting what I am paying for no thanks to any actions of people on this board but to that of WBS.

I am also aware that their 64K throttling service was faulty and some onus falls on WBS in terms of responsibility, but it seems the only way to treat you guys is like kids.
You bit the hand that was essentially giving you free bandwidth and now you want to fight them and ruin them in the media.

Amazing.

Regards
Amber

hahhaha, ok, i consider myself admonished, but i still got biatching rights

No amber they are ruining themselves, please dont talk about cancer when you fail to understand that they had anti cancer drugs in place that just didnt work ! Thats their problem not ours!

They are hiding behind "network abuse, form april 1st" whne the truth is abnormal downloads only started last weekend, so why then did we have bad service from the beginning of April when everyone could still use their 3 GIGs any way they wanted?

It is a sorry excuse , but I cannot beleive you are buying this story!

As long as I pay for a service, I have a prepaid right to bitch about it! Now do you have anything constructive to add or are you just airing your "original" thoughts?

It appears to be your problem, certainly not mine or WBS's. I dont see anyone except the culprits jumping up and down because their ice cream was taking away. And the 6 ice creams before seems not to have fufilled their appetite.
What a shame. Now you want more free ice cream?

As I said before this forum whines and I believe you have proven this yet again.

Again it isnt free! I paid to have a 64k line after the cap, I wasnt told 64k until we say so!

Again, do you have any valid points that you bring to the table or are you just going to babble?

Either argue with some real information or listen to us bitch!

Amber nice to see you back, hope you stay as you obviously have an important contribution to add.
I too was upset with the poor speeds etc after launch. I also have used less than 1gb so far so certainly am not a bandwidth hog, but what happend today was corporate madness that may well have far reaching consequences for wbs.

How could wbs launch without having tested there bandwidth manage? Their whole business plan was obviously dependant on monitoring, capping and throttleing "problem" users. What was those 6 months of prelaunch if not the time to sort these issues out.

During the "slow" phase following launch people pleaded with wbs to communicate the problem on the network. Surely that was the time for wbs to come clean and explain that the bandwidth manager was not performing as expected and that as such they would monitor people who were downloading in excess. They could then have given guidelines as to what would be acceptable, and set out what actions would be taken in the case of network abuse.

Also during the 6 months of prelaunch people on this forum had on numerous occasions requested from wbs what to expect once on the 64k throttle. Never once did wbs give any indication on what too expect, i am sure that a lot of people now seen as "abusers" were simply pleasantly surprised to see the good speeds on the "throttled" pipe and had no reason to believe they were the source of the network degradation.

I hope that something positive can come from this mess, prehaps wbs management will come to realise that until the network is fully established and stable they need to communicate with their customers when problems occur.

AMBER! I am fighting to have the disconnect problem sorted out. I am getting bugger all service!

And these "culprits" have a strong case. All they are doing in effect is using up other people's unsed bandwidth. And they are not asking 1mbit but just the normal 64k as PROMISED!

And, it's only a fraction of people who have complaints that actually end up in this forum to voice their opinions. I have 3 other mates with the same disconnect problems as i have!

So stop being so narrow minded. Remember its people that are unhappy that most often talk, and not the happy people. Sad, but true!

I'm also fight with WBS, I'm on the network less than 1 hour and i get disconnected from IRC/MSN/NET/ then I've to re dial to WBS, I contact there Help Desk , they tell me there network is fine & everything, how can it be find if someone in my area is experience the same problem as me, i think they don't want to attend the phones, I called again yesterday night spoke to guy that was falling a sleep on the phone & PUT down the phone on my Face.

What I certainly don't like what I'm hearing is the (NEW RULE - If you reach your 3 gig cap and go over it's consedered abuse, where in my contract, does it say if i go over my 3 gig its considerd abuse, it SAYS service will be degraded to 64 kb/s throttle service...

That what I don't understand!!! I was also reading a POST on hear about Longhorn speaking to Sassin, what he posted I didn't like at all.
I've not even used my 3 GIG this month due to speed problems, but to me once you use ur 3 GIG you should be on throttle service, WBS should review there contract. I diss like what I'm hearing about this 3 GIG CAP 1ce you go over bored, pay for more bandwidth, that what its stating.

Listen and listen carefully, I fail to see how USING A SERVICE AS ADVERTISED is abusing their network.

oh and Amber, I was one of the few who were capped and who still downloaded. I havent even reached 8 gigs, and the words of Mr. Parvin : "Just because you are on the throttled service doesn't mean you can still download"

Why provide us with a throttled service, if their intention was not to let us download whilst we weren't capped?

This is totally unethical for a company to do in SO many ways. I agree some users abused whatever, but it was WBS who had to ensure their system worked. It's not it's customers job!

It's like your parents just assuming you will grow up by yourself...

Im with you Noone, I know 10 ppl who have been SUSPENDED and are over there 3gig about an extra 1 gig, to me that is UNFAIR you can download more on 56 k.

It was WBS fault, not there fault, they thought the users were on CAP WBS, but they screw up nobody else. Users shouldn't be suspended they did nothing wrong, they thought they were on CAP, I CAN UNDERSTAND "abusers' meaning those downloading more than 30 gig or so but ppl under 10 gig and there accounts suspended. I support them there account shouldn't be suspended.

To me WBS, are been another sentech, they should tell us what is going on. WBS just want to make profit fast and screw us around.

Yeah, I'm with you with throttle service, it seems its now changed its money making SCHEME.

If it were not for the 'beta test abusers' how else would they find out their systems are not working?

yeah look it's simple, before april 1st thier scape goat was that they weren't launched, after april first thier scape goat is "abusers". 6GB is not abuse especially when there is no limit set out for how much you may get while throttled.

oh, and last night when my account was re-activated, I had 120kb/s on international. I think their cap system (havent seen if it works yet, but this morning surfing was still fast) was flawed, and they inadvertantly suspended accounts left right and center.

I told Sassin last night that a friend of mine (slimothy) brother bought 6 gig, used it, and went 1 gig over with their throttled service, then was forced to buy more gigs because he was an "abuser"

Its like locking up someone who smokes weed for the first time for 20 years in jail because he's a druglord.

If WBS advertised that the user would be cut off once they reached 3GB then you would know what to expect. Fact is - this is not the case. WBS has falsely led customers to believe once they reached 3GB they would be "throttled" to a 64k connection. So bottom line is - if WBS is unable to do this, it is NOT the customers fault, it is clearly WBS's fault. The users have ever right to "whine" about their lack of service and WBS should be held accountable. Afterall, they had plenty time to get their act together.

If you want to get ripped off as a consumer, that's your indaba.
The rest of us are striving to get affordable bandwidth to help South Africa try to catch up !

You miss the bigger picture, because your happy.

Stick around, read the forums a bit, take a look at what happened at ICASA and then make an informed decision as to how you really see the situation.

thats it right there. We are just so behind its depressing, other 3rd world countries are pumping thier economies with tech markets and we have yet to get a broadband service comparable with anywhere important. If we stop the pressure then it just gonna take longer to fix the problems. If it seems like we're petty and childish on this forum its only because we all give a sh*t. I don't wanna see my country be behind Nigeria, I wanna win this race.

You are not going to be very popular around here with that kind of attitude mate :).

I think WBS realized eventually the cost of giving some folks a "free" 64K channel once they used up their 3GB cap because some of these folks left their PC's running and were still pulling down stuff or serving up warez 24/7.

No company can sustain that as all the small time warez, porn and movie leeches who cannot afford an uncapped ADSL solution have migrated to iburst.

A new entrant to the market will simply learn the sad tale of Sentech and WBS about "unlimited" internet and simply cap everything like Telkom,Vodacom and MTN.
