Since nobody else has posted one and since we need it here's an Amazon Bargains thread. While this is in the PC Hardware and Gadgets section all Amazon bargains (not just PC Hardware) are welcomed. This is just to make it easier to have one thread to keep track of good deals.

How To Use Amazon’s Discount Filter Search

  1. Perform Your Search
  2. Add &pct-off=50- to the end of the search URL for 50% off. You can replace the 50 with another number or a range.
  3. Keep adjusting your search to find the best deals

1. Perform Your Search

Enter what you’re looking for into the search bar. For our little experiment, let’s go with coffee makers.

to see which ones are 50 percent off, add &pct-off=50- to the end of the search URL.

How about ones that are between 50% and 90% off? Simply add &pct-off=50-90 to the URL, and you’re good to go.

Also, don’t forget to include a dash after a single number (so &pct-off=25- for 25 percent off). If you leave it off, the discount search function won’t work.

To see it in action, let’s return to our coffee makers search results page and add &pct-off=75-

Goes without saying not to be fooled by "x%" off type offers.
Their 50% off could still be more expensive than other retailers.

I don't know if this is supported by Amazon.co.za yet, but I also recommend Keepa plugin.
It will show the price history of an item to give you an idea of the current "deal" is really such a good deal or not.

After seeing this:

Are the blades the same as the Combs mentioned in the product for R479 (the Pack of 2 replacement Blades)? If so that would make it cheaper to just buy a second trimmer with the 3 combs/blades included.
The first one comes with one blade included and the second one is just two blades. You can use it about 1-2 years before swapping the blade out.

I have no frame of reference, is that a good price or really bad?

Because the price is crazy?
I think the price is pretty good if you are looking for the Slim editions. Older versions might be cheaper.

No. The platform text lists Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Don't think the Playstation runs that. :)

LOL platform is such an overloaded term (especially for me in my day job), I didn't even think to look in the actual product description.
I just assumed you meant like their store platform or playstation platform, or..

Doh.

And how, exactly, is discount measured in Amazon terms? Can I make it up as I go along ala Takealot or Bobshop resellers?
If the US store is anything to go by, they are always a discount from the "standard price". At least in my experience.
I have a plugin that shows me price history over > a year and it is pretty clear form that. (ie. the normal flat line and dips where there were discounts)
It may not be their deepest discount but it would be cheaper than the standard price.

But if they had a discount, it went back to normal and then had another discount, it doesn't mean the latter discount will be more than the former discount. Both are just discounts form the retail price and may or may not be better than previous discounts.
