See my post above regarding ship/view limits on products but local distribution usually object in a market they supposedly have exclusivity deals or established distribution channels. A good example would be Apple products on .COM aren't visible to ZA or shippable to ZA unless you find some odd third party seller/refurbed items.

I suspected that stuff would be added, but they would need to investigate their local pricing to before even considering being competitive. South Africa has had a blooming online retail sector for a long time now, so people have their favorite stores and if Amazon is to compete, they seriously need to look at dropping their prices. They do not need to use local suppliers as they can readily bring in stock from their own foreign warehouses while still keeping prices well below what we are paying locally.

It's highly unlikely they will bypass local distribution where local distribution exists.

But they will also have to pay shipping, storage and taxes on those things. And don't forget SA labour laws.

I just found the same - a Pudo locker fairly close to my house. This could be much nicer than Takealot's.

The office banned us from doing deliveries from Takealot there (after we overwhelmed reception with tons of Blue Dot packages a couple of years ago) and since I work from the office, I don't want to do deliveries at home. So I've always done Takealot pickup points, but it kinda sucked to drive out to one.

Just a word of warning. Ordering from Amazon is super easy and convenient, but once they’ve got the local market locked down (which won’t take long), remember to do a web search before you pull the trigger on anything. Amazon can actually be more expensive (even with “free” delivery) compared to other sites.
