Amazon South Africa's big problem

Amazon's South African online marketplace has plummeted in popularity since launching around a month ago.

Google Trends data for "Amazon.co.za", "Amazon South Africa", and "Amazon" show that online searches for the marketplace skyrocketed at launch.

maybe customers are waking up to the fact that they are getting ripped off by all these resellers on these sites... (not Amazon or TakeAlot etc, it's the people selling the products)

I think they are, and it's thanks to places like Shein and Temu that caused it. I mean for years Takealot rode on the coats of drop shippers bringing in things, but now for maybe waiting 3 days more you can get it at a third of the price even with VAT/Taxes.

and with a much smaller product catalogue.
Yup, problem is people were expecting Amazon to ride in with their products, but they basically decided to be takealot or BoBshop, we already have that thanks.

I really find their search on the website to @ss :?

Can't even buy a Kindle

The lacklustre product choices yes is indeed a factor but the difference should be in the service. I have not tried Amazon locally, but have done several returns on Amazon.com with no issues. Good luck trying to return something or get something fixed under warranty from Takealot. It took me a month to get my Ecoflow repaired. You can’t phone or speak to anyone and it’s email after email. I eventually found the supplier and managed to speak to them directly. Have not used Takealot since.

What is up with the search engines? Takealot sucks, Amazon sucks as well. You search for say a specific TV and you get nose spray (it has happened)
It’s important to have a good nose spray when waiting TV

Similar story I had with a phone, pretty much not used Takealot since either. All the small stuff I used to get from them, now comes direct.
