Amazon.co.za's underwhelming launch

Do you know why Americans are good at business? Because they don't rip their customers off, plain and simple.

I don't mind paying a little bit more for a product in SA that comes from China because of some tax or shipping etc. But to sell that same product at 5x the price of what I can buy it overseas for is insane.

Do you think Amazon in America would be in business if it did the same business practice as TakeAlot and the likes? nope...

What is up with the search engines? Takealot sucks, Amazon sucks as well. You search for say a specific TV and you get nose spray (it has happened)
It's called their discovery algorithm.

Its how they push what they want to sell, instead of what you asked for.

Well they must've really wanted to sell nose spray :-P. Often the engines are terrible, Temus is just as awful

Who would have thought doing exactly something Takealot is already providing won't work. Bring something new to the table and then see. Look how successful Shein and Temu has become and it's not even in SA.

Have there been any adverts for Amazon?

I haven't seen any on TV or anywhere else.
Surely this means the big opening is yet to come and this initial launch is just to sort out bugs, etc.

I mean it's basically takealot with a different skin
Which is a good start considering Amazon has almost none of the infrastructure in ZA like they do in the US and EU which is the strength behind Amazon.

TV and ads? What is this?

They've been building up for years, surely they'd have something

There was a couple of nice deals on launch or the prices was wrong.

WILSON Harmonized M1 Golf Putter for R600 retails for about R1200 normal price.
BOBOVR M1 Plus Elite Head Strap for Oculus Quest 2 for R116, retails for R749 from Takealot.

The heads strap is a lot better then the default Quest 2. I will test the putter in 2 weeks.

I Don't know if they are being stubborn, or trying to be clever, but they seem to not be advertising on google shopping.... which is how I personally find most of the stuff I buy online.

Also... e-commerce 101: If you want people to buy something show them the price. If you fooled me once into clicking on something with a "55% discount" only to find that it's the same price as everwhere else, I'm going to assume it's the same for all your products and not even bother.....

And they managed to release an equivalent to Takealot, a storefront that's been here for over a decade with a firm grasp on the e-commerce sector, scaring Takealot enough to actually do something different with their delivery.

I mean, that's pretty good.
