Amazon Data Center in SA

It's really long overdue. I use quite a few Amazon services, and it would make a big difference having it hosted locally. But what's the source of this rumour? If it's the job listings, it's not really a good indicator, because Amazon has for years run a software team in Cape Town.

The local market is too small for Azure currently and bandwidth costs are the biggest thing keeping them out

That is a fact. MS stays away for no other reason than our poor electrical grid.
 
Amazon would be super stoopid to build a DC anywhere in South Africa for the next few years.

Unless they are like solar and wind powered with Eskom and generator backups? :P
