I am wanting to move away from DSTV and am now having to learn all about media streaming devices to set up on the TV.

It seems Amazon Fire TV and Roku are the most popular. But I am not sure which would be the better. I basically want to get Netflix and a news channel (preferably Sky News, BBC News or CNN - in that order).

My other questions are:

a) What is the difference between Fire TV and a Fire TV Stick?
b) whether I should get the device from overseas or buy it locally?
c) can they be connected via vpn? - Which would be the best VPN provider?
d) is it possible to get the USA version of Netflix as it seems to have a lot more series/movies than the South African one?

Any other advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Netflix has been pretty good at nailing down VPNs

Smart DSN gives you American netflix
I use smart DSN which is pretty good all the BBC channels work well plus I can get US netflix and Hulu
I use a Roku but would like to get a firestick
I got my Roku's from takealot - The firesticks are much cheaper from Amazon themselves but then you have postage to consider

Since the Fire TV runs on Android TV I would go with this option as it is far for flexible than the Roku. I would recommend the fire TV box over the stick because of wired lan and the ability to add peripherals like an air mouse remote.

Fire TV would be my choice. Allows for a lot more + sideloading
For ease of use, I would say Roku
