Amazon paperwhite e-reader launched

Ive never used a kindle so dont really understand it.

Would i be bale to buy books from different amazon websites? I would want german books from amazon?de and also english books. Would you be able to do this on a kindle?

I wonder when they will open orders to the international market, currently it looks like just for their domestic market.

Tried to pre-order paperwhite with wi-fi but not available to us. I love Kindle and always get the latest ones ... and last year they took my order for the 6" wi-fi and delivered when it became available ... but not this time.

Yes

Looks my kindle will finally be getting an upgrade. I like this battery life even with light on.
:)

Has anyone heard if/when Amazon will allow shipping of the new Kindle paperwhite to SA?

I already have a kindle touch but I want to to buy the paperwhite as a present for my wife. I just tried ordering one now and it didn't allow me to ship to SA (or to New Zealand where my parents live). I also check the UK Amazon site but the paperwhite isn't even available on it.

Anyone?

I wrote Amazon an email and the reply was that they have no definite plans for SA yet.

Incredible Connection, Makro, etc will probably get preferential treatment now that the devices are sold in retail stores.

e-Readers are convenient to take with you, on a plane, while travelling, waiting for someone, but I still prefer the feel of a paper book. And for the last few month, e-books have started to become more expensive than paperbacks, yet have no printing and distribution costs. Is some skimming taking place here?

Will Amazon still send the older one to South Africa?

I remember we ordered one for my grandmother (the one with the keyboard) and it was so easy and the shipping was so fast!

There are some major ongoing debates regarding this. I'm hoping the courts will nail them for their colluding and artificially inflating prices.

I also prefer a book. a scumbag also wont rob you for the book, but would for a kindle.

I read on av four books at a time (chapter each in series). Can only do this with Kindle or similar.

I had a huge book collection that cost me a fortune to move every time I relocated, so I started to get rid of hardcopy books and replaced them with e-books. As a book lover I love reading printed books (and I do so still) and for certain kinds of books e-books will never work anyway. I am however becoming very concerned about the impact of DRM on my substantial Kindle collection as the books should be made available to my kids when I "expire". Calibre working overtime?

For anyone in the market for a new Kindle, Amazon has in fact relaunched its entry-level model at a ridiculous price in the USA of $69. This is the basic wifi non-touchscreen model with 2GB of memory and the same 6" screen as all previous Kindles -- the only visible difference from the previous Kindle 4 non-touch model being that the bezel around the screen is black and not silver. It is also ad-supported, but unless you connect regularly to Amazon via WiFi you will simply get a techno-design screensaver, not the ads.

Wanna bet Incredible will keep selling the non-touch model here at about double the US price? Unfortunately without a US delivery address Amazon will not ship this model to SA -- only its non-ad-supported version at about $25 more, still a bargain.
