Hey guys, I'm not sure if this is the correct thread for me to be asking this, so sorry if I may not post this here LOL.
So I'm looking at purchasing a Acer Nitro 5 from Amazon.com for myself to use for university for the next 3 years, but I only have one question. For the people that have ordered something off of Amazon before do I only pay the amount for shipping and import duties that is showed on the checkout screen (AmazonGlobal priority = R974.93), or is that only the shipping and I will need to pay for import duties later on?

At checkout, Amazon gives you a line by line breakdown of the cost:

Item cost
Tax and import duties
Shipping cost

These three totals together is what you pay and nothing more..
You may even get a refund if it came in under their estimate of import duties. Getting R0.47 incoming back to me in the next 3-5 business days.

Selecting Amazon Global Eligible is a guarantee it's coming via Aramex which is what you want. It's couriered to your door in a very good amount of time.
Preferably choose that laptop if it's sold directly from Amazon.

It should show you the customs charges if you are sending it directly to SA.

If not, purchase amount * 1.11 * 1.15 = amount - purchase = Customs charge

Ah shot thanks my dude I didn't realise it also shows that option at the end of the checkout process before you have to pay, I only went to the shipping options and was confused AF.

Yeah I made sure it is coming directly from Amazon and not a third party seller.

Whatever you do do NOT choose economy which is shipped using Aramex. My package from Amazon reached Jhb in mere days and has been sitting at Aramex office for more than two weeks without movement. Reached out to them twice and still waiting. Complained on their FB page only to find my comment deleted. Previous orders using DHL or UPS was in my hands in five working days. Pay a bit more for priority shipping.

I had a R6000 parcel that arrived at Aramex and cleared customs on the 10th of December, parcel is now considered "lost". I had to follow up the entire time and am still busy with my case that I logged to get them to mark the tracking number as lost so I can request a resend from Amazon.

Hopefully with the ability to change to DHL and use Express rather. That R200 odd difference is far worth it vs the hassle I have had with Aramex lately (past 6 months).

I normally always use the priority shipping, it's generally not that much more expensive but it's just much more reliable. They've delivered packages for me on Sunday afternoons before (I was caught a bit off guard with that one )

Yeah I did my first priority when I got my OnePlus from Amazon and was bowled away with the service, I also received the phone on a Saturday which was epic from DHL. Second time I ordered parcel wasn't going to arrive before Christmas and I was able to collect in a heartbeat from their JHB office, call center has always been on point and the parcel moves at a speed through the entire chain.

You are right, the price is minimal and since I tend to bundle alot of my Amazon orders into one larger order it just makes even more sense to go with this option going forward.

You seen movement on your package yet..? Mine cleared customs the 14th of December and today only has it arrived at the carrier facility in JHB..

It has not moved from the location in Jhb, it's been three weeks since Aramex received it and two weeks since I started to query it. Several complaints proved absolutely fruitless. I hope to bring this shocking state of affairs to Amazon's attention. Evidently there is no way to escalate this with Aramex, I wonder if it's leadership is aware and just don't care a hoot. From all the complaints I see here and elsewhere this seems to be the norm.

So package was out for delivery today, then this:

"Delay in delivery due to mechanical issues with aircraft or truck movement"

I wonder if this can be believed.

.... and this morning that has been deleted and replaced with "Attempted delivery - delivery rescheduled".

We were home all day, this is just a blatant lie.

Eish,
I honestly feel for you ........
Can you not raise this with Amazon?

I fully intend to but have not been able to find a way. Think I'll try get a contact via their FB page unless anyone has suggestions.

You don't actually need to deal with Aramex.
If you file a complaint on Amazon, they'll send out your order again.

I know it is a delay, but there is no way you won't get your stuff or full refund

People keep saying this like it is gospel. It can be SOLD by anyone. Make sure it is SHIPS from Amazon

That's very weird. I normally use Standard Shipping when it is fulfilled by Aramex and it arrives at my door in little over a week.
A mate of mine ordered something online last year in December and Aramex still has it for whatever reason. So it's something to do with the local guys now.
But I will keep this in mind for when I order again in the next couple of months.
