Amazon Shipping

Have ordered off Amazon a couple of times. Delivery in as little as 3 days - it's insane! Obviously chose to pay a bit more for express delivery, but it's so convenient sometimes that I wish more people in SA were aware of it.

Yep +1

Most of the times these days computer hardware is cheaper when bought from Amazon and their returns policy is better too. They basically pay for all the shipping on a return and ship another one while waiting for your return to reach them.

Not to mention that you don't get any "clever technician" trying to figure out if it really is a hardware fault or you blew it up, giving you the run around etc.

Amazon just doesn't care if a hardware company has some kind of policy, they'll take it back and if the hardware company has a problem, well not selling on Amazon is basically a death sentence for any serious business in the US.

It gives you a lot of options using their platform.

I ordered from Amazon (cheaper delivery, Aramex) on January 29. There has been no update on the tracking page up to now (February 9, see screenshot below). I placed another order on February 3, and today I received an e-mail for my customs details (the tracking details indicate the parcel is on its way to ZA). Should I cancel my earlier order, or does it sometimes take this long using Aramex ?
My second order has details under shipment history, such as "Received at Aramex origin sorting facility", "Shipment departed origin country", whereas my earlier order has no details.

Contact them, they're very good with their tracking normally.

Oh, and check your Amazon order. I have had delayed orders shipped when buying off Amazon.com because the products came from outside the USA! So it ships to the USA, and then from there it ships via Aramex.

Oh i forgot to mention - I did contact Aramex and they replied with "The shipment was created on the Aramex system however this was never received."
I mailed Amazon but still waiting for a reply. My order on Amazon shows nothing about the order being delayed. Perhaps I should give it some more time ?

It won't necessarily say it's delayed...just that it's enroute.

On Amazon it has updates "Package has shipped" and "Package arrived at an Amazon facility".
Dates on both are 1 Feb.
OK, but nothing after that? Then the delay is with Amazon so follow up if they haven't got back to you. They are also pretty good with replying, but keep up with getting hold of them if needed.
If you have multiple items, then they generally all wait at that facility until everything is there, then it's bundled and sent by courier (Aramex).

I placed two orders, about a week apart, one with Aramex (regular shipping) and one with DHL (priority shipping). The DHL package with several items took a few days, while the Aramex with 1 small item took about 6 weeks (looks like it sat at customs / locally for a while). I'll only be using priority shipping from now on.

You may even get a refund if it came in under their estimate of import duties. Getting R0.47 incoming back to me in the next 3-5 business days.
Same got R8 back for a pair of Sony WF-SP800N.

Just to add - Due to covid there does seem to be extra delays these days with Amazon’s fulfillment. I order from Amazon often and there definitely seems to be an added 5 days or so compared to past experience at least at the moment.

Quick question for the guys who order more often. I placed an order on Amazon last week with standard shipping. I see the status has still not changed to shipped yet.

There is an option to cancel order. Would it be wise to cancel and order again with priority shipping? I'm not in a major rush, however if paying 150 bucks extra avoids parcel sitting at customs for weeks then I will happily do so.

No don't. Did your goods all come from a single supplier, or multiple suppliers? If the latter then it's very likely that the goods are waiting at the distribution point until they're all in 1 place. Once they're all packaged they'll be sent together.

Bought 2 x Pearl Jam CDs & the new Foo Fighters off Amazon.com last night because, for some reason, you don't get them locally! It's basically shipped already.
I'll update with timelines as it moves along the delivery chain, but it's coming from a single supplier (Amazon Export Sales LLC) so that helps.

Thanks! It's a single Amazon device that was shown as "In Stock". Which is why it's very strange that it's been sitting idle for a week and hasn't shipped.

Covid delay and less flights results in them holding the order much longer than usual. I ordered a single book which was in stock - 5 days from order to shipping.

Update on my order - my initial order never updated, so I cancelled it and re-ordered on the 9th of Feb. Current status is "package received by carrier", on 16 Feb.
My other order arrived quite quickly from Aramex. Ordered 3rd of Feb and I received it on 15 Feb.
I have another order using express delivery (today, 18 Feb).
Will update once my other two orders get here.

I once ordered from Amazon via Aramex and the order just never seemed to move. Exceeded expected arrival time (I think 3 weeks) with no change in status.
Spoke to an Amazon rep, they refunded me and I ordered the same item again.
Second order got to me in 10 days or so.
The first order got delivered unexpectedly around 3 months later - box was quite battered. No clue what went wrong.

Ha I also canceled my Aramex order and used DHL. Wonder if I'll get a surprise gift a few months down the line
