Amber Update Leaked

No rather wait for the official version before turning your device into a brick.

I used the Nokia Software Update for retail to download, but used Nokia Care Suite to install which auto-identified my 920. Firmware says MTN-ZA under mobile operator now, but working fine on Vodacom.

Warning: Your phone gets wiped if you use this method and you have to re-download all your apps.

Data Sense is available as well as Glance, double tap to unlock, colour profiles and FM Radio.

Nokia Pro Camera is not available (yet).

Apologies for the large pics, but yes, I had no idea the info was as detailed. Note the 2 entries for each app - top shows cell data usage and bottom shows wifi usage.

If I understand correctly there is a 2nd part to data sense that has to be implemented at the carrier for the data compression features of data sense to work. Have no idea of the local operators are going to support this or not.

Edit: Another screenshot from Datasense:

Thanks for the info, for once its actually an update I'm excited about getting. Hopefully this will also reset and fix my app store update problem.

Yeah that second part seems familiar with what I understood of it. As for in SA I doubt any of our operators will implement due to it firstly costing money and then decreasing potential revenues for them. I also doubt there is enough of a local Win Pho market share to warrant the initial exercise of costing it.

Thanks for posting the images, looking forward to MTN releasing the update.

Hey Andre, thanks for the post.

My polish isn't that great...I followed the links from wpcentral.com but not sure where do download the actual firmware. Can you post the link?

I'm also using a Mac so will have to go through the schlep of installing everything on a Windows machine here at the office. Reckon its worth the effort?

I'm dying to put this on my 720 but Nokia didn't leak that firmware
Depends on your needs..If you really want to have the FM radio and are suffering with the Other storage bug then look into it.

As to where to find the files..saw someone on wpCentral forums with a .rar of the firmware. Maybe look there?

@p51mustang : This software is already available for MTN. I'm actually running the MTN version on my phone - MTN must be holding it up.

@fishfreak : It was a major pain to install this update. My biggest problem is that the phone would not switch to flash update mode. I eventually figured out that I had to use the single USB 2 port on my laptop instead of one of the USB 3 ports. I lost my original Nokia data cable and was using a 3rd party replacement, so that might have had something to do with it.

Other things to think about: You lose all your apps and your start screen customisation. If you wait for the official update, you should be able to update without losing anything.

Google Nokia Software Updater for Retail 3.0.8. This should find the appropriate update for you automatically. I used the Nokia Product Support Tool for Store 5.0 to do the actual flashing.

The firmware file name is RM821_3047.0000.1326.2001_RETAIL_im_south_africa_219_01_248831_prd_signed.ffu

for a Lumia 920

New feature for GDR2 phones released today: Call+SMS filter.

You can setup a list of blocked numbers (blocks both calls and SMS not either/or)

Option to block withheld numbers
Option for live tile and notifications of blocked number.

Also a small tweak added to the Glance feature (the clock that displays when you lock the phone) called Peek which shortens the clock display time to I estimate about 30 seconds instead of the 15min option that is called "Timed".

Any idea when the GDR2 update will be out for Lumia 920?
