AMD bulldozer

I will more than likely buy amd for my other office pc, doesn't really require much power so it should be the perfect fit for a performance pastel pc. Intel is overkill for pastel.

I may as well buy the phenom 2 though

So... I run linux (No preference on which..) Mostly for 3D Animation and Rendering.
I'm torn... what route do I go? 8 Cores with the 2 Radeons will really make a pretty ballet... but I also enjoy my games.

What about the new Battlefield? It's heavy on multicores...

If you will utilize 8 cores go for it but your games will suffer so it depends what you need more. I think it uses a max of 4 cores but i could be mistaken, they recommend a quadcore for bf 3

That's the part that worries me... how much will it suffer? It seems that on gaming the Zambezie is about the same as an i5 2500. That's still pretty decent. I'm not an Enthusiast Gamer, just like proper gaming. On that thought, it makes sense to build the PC for rendering (Blender 3D), with gaming as a second option, rather than the other way around... sigh. This is more complicated than choosing character stats. :p

Just buy a 2600k and get the best of both worlds. Good multithreaded performance and vastly better single threaded performance. Its not like the 8150 is that much cheaper than a 2600k, oh and it uses more power and produces more heat. Remind me why I would buy one AMD?

±R2400 is not much cheaper than R3300?
Replace your recommendation with a 2500k and it makes sense

The heat part is also incorrect, AMDs generally run much cooler than Intels

Errr no they dont, not since the Athlon 64.

AMD chips have used more power than Intel chips for the last 2 years at least, and BD is in fact worse than Phenom II in that regard. More power used = more heat produced.

Sigh, this is something people keep getting mixed up. Different architectures, not to mention possibly different IHCs will lead to different temps regardless of power consumption

Lets see
2600k = 50°
FX-8150 = 46°
Now you tell me which one is running cooler? My point is really proven when you see that the AMD part is pulling ±70W more accrding to that review

Not to mention historically I am correct, even Phenoms ran cooler than Intel counterparts. AMD has for a long time now had much lower temp ceilings on their chips

well all thats said, I think we should consider that this range of cpu's might just be a bit ahead
of its time, it seems to be encouraging coders to make use of multi threading much more which is
a really good thing ... the more threads means they might not need super powerful cores with
Hi clocks which is what we all want right now cause thats all our current code can make use of.

Actually it's 2.6k inc vat at esquire but that is direct not everyone can buy direct but the people selling it for 3.3k are making an absolute bloody killing on it.

Proper review for a proper pomping.

Wow gaming benchies are shocking. This cpu cannot hold a candle to the 2600k , when you ordering dude? I know you will buy this cpu come hell or high water :p

R700 profit is unheard of in the industry on one item

Considering I have a Phenom II 955, I think I'll wait for Piledriver.
