Can somebody help. I need the latest Gigabyte AMD mb. Rectron is the sole
distrubetor in RSA. They are not importing the AMD mobos. Can anybody tell
me why? Are they not dis advancing AMD in SA, or am I going Mad?

Is there any specific reason you need a gigabyte mobo?

As Rectron does not sell AMD CPU's they probably feel it is better to focus on their core business which is Intel CPU based motherboards. I must confess however that ASUS make far superior AMD motherboards than Gigabyte. As Killa says why must it be Gigabyte?

I'd recommend ASUS or XFX over Gigabyte any day.

Rectron stopped supplying AMD products (Both CPU's and Mobos) ages ago. Thought this was common knowledge.

They couldn't sell AMD's as AMD -S.A (which seems to have closed earlier this year) took control of AMD chips sales. So AMD pretty much shot themselves in the foot there!

It must be AM3 because the latest Gigabyte released (Was released a few days ago) is AM3

Slightly off-topic, my apologies... But why does Frontosa still supply AMD products when Rectron can't?

AMD PWNZ ALL!!!!!!!! lol (I'm an AMD fanboy okay)

They don't have exess stock because they have all the new AM3 CPUs and Mobos

It's a five letter word and it's an abbreviation...

Well I'm a Gigabyte fan, my gripe is that if Rectron is not prepared to import AMD mobos, why not let somebody else do it. Prior to them having sole import rights, one could shop around. Now they can dictate the price. Thanks to all for the recomedations.

Brand Wars?

I wouldn't listen to people who state that other brands are better than Gigabyte (or any other brand for that matter) without stating any reasons... Come on guys, give benefits!
E.g. Price, Features, Stability (which Gigabytes very good at) and Warranty?...

Personally, I've been an AMD Fan for ages, but since Intel's release of Core i7, AMD has kinda let me down. (I'm upgrading to Core i7 in December)

I'd like to argue though, that the GA-EX58-EXTREME (Currently Gigabyte's Flagship i7 board) is actually much better than most of the rivals...

It was released before Asus released their 3-way SLI boards. Gigabyte's board also not only supports 3-way SLI, but also 3-way Cross-Fire!

Aesthetically, I think the Gigabyte looks better...

Price-wise, If you compare the Ex-58-EXTREME (~US$300) with the Asus Flagship P6T7 SuperComputer (~US$400)... it's more affordable.

Reliability? Both are equal :)

In the end, it actually boils down to user-preference. It's like Cars.. Which is better? A BMW or a Mercedes?
Fights will start over that comparison... even though both German Car manufacturers are in fact, nearly the same.

Meh, Gigabyte FTW

ASUS seem to do well at underclocking and also overclocking the old CPUs
