see what price difference is on 4870 and see if you can afford that if not 4850 just because im sick nvidia ripping us and having the market

look nothing really uses more than 2 cores, that amd is way slower than the e8200 and if you overclock the e8200 it kicks ass big time, i have the e8400 and it was a fast cpu so im sure the e8200 aint far behind it

whats the difference between the e8200 and q6600? i have seen it as low as 300 bucks
 
neither go cyrix :)

personally ill rather take a intel quad something. (big brother over my shoulder hehe can't really go surf around for stats)
 
remember, a dual/tri/quad is not faster than a single core, it can just handle more things at once. So if the pc is used for office and small games, a fast single core is better.
If you will be doing server type data, with lots of multi-tasking and hectic new age gaming, then more cores will come in handy.

when it comes to intel or amd, I have always believed Intel is more powerful for applications, but amd is faster for gaming.
 
I've always been an Intel fan but know a lot of people who run AMD's with no complaints
It's hard to tell these days... It used to be is it's more expensive, it's better but then when you think about the Nvidia/ATI saga, this isn't always the case
 
kevin amd used to be like but i can show plenty benchies that show intel rule in everything man

core 2 changed everything

gaming and applications it pomps amd
 
@ .geek - I have those exact Intel specs and all I can say is you wont be sorry! I am extremely happy with this setup and seriously couldn’t ask for more (ok I lie I want another 8800GT) ;)

I was a AMD/ATi man previously and decided to try Intel/Nvidia for a change this time around and I think I am converted. ;)
 
Take the Intel option but swap the 8800GT for a 4850, you don't have to put AMD with ATI. It is a better card for the same price.
 
Yea get a Xfire board.... When you have more cash get another hd4850 and you'll have a kick ass machine... Also rather get the e8400 than the e8200 (Price difference isnt that much)
 
yea but neither is the performance between e8200 and e8400

e8400 is more expensive than a q6600 so if your going to get an e8400 might as well get a q6600
 
As a amd fan i would say go AMD!!! But sadly intel is the better choice at the moment.with overclocking and standard performance:(

I thought the same thing with pricing, but E8400 pricing still seems a bit high whereas Q6600 is dropping. After the latest Intel price cuts get to SA we'll see.

The speed increase from E8200 to E8400 is almost more than from 8400 to 8500, so I don't see why not spend the extra R200.
 
yea just checked the q6600 is going for under 1.6k ex vat amazing (lets not go into the ex vat story plz im not an online retailer)

about 100 bucks difference between e8400 and q6600
 
Seems like IkonicIT has the most up to date prices then... Other people will probably follow... Id still get a E8400 over a Q6600...

Very true, killadoob!

I don't think AMD has fully recovered from the shock when Core2 got released.

Even Apple realised it's time to say goodbye to Motorola, if they wanted to stay competitive in the computer business.

I'm not biased towards either AMD or Intel having used both in the past, each with their own pro's & cons.

I've heard a lot of good things about Intel over the last year (or more), but I've also been made aware of the slightly lower cost in the AMD / ATI combination of graphics and CPU.

Quad core definitely is not something I require. If I'm playing games, I'm not running anything else on my PC. That's my number one requirement and use of my PC. I have a laptop for work and a PS3 as my other gaming platform / media server. I'm just a die hard PC gamer.

I'm really surprised at the low cost of RAM currently. Quite amazing in fact.

Regarding either of those motherboards: do you have any other recommendations? :)
