AMD Radeon HD 2900XT Review

i think we are getting shafted because of this:

We get x to import who sells to y who then sells to z

alot of us buy from x direct which saves money

but it goes through 2 ppl before arriving at us, where as somebody like newegg.com prolly buy direct from asus evga etc and sells to the public cutting costs

also i think the fact that we have so many computer suppliers who sell so many different brands as well as the same brand, cause us to buy low quantities per supplier meaning we dont get the best pricing because our orders are split up from all these suppliers just a theory though

if we had one supplier with xfx or asus would put in a huge order and maybe a bigger discount :)
 
Yup, it goes through too many people before it gets to us. Looking at Neweggs CPU prices compared to ours is just sickening.
 
Nope it's the suppliers... Dealer price ex vat is usually higher than circuit city... price on shelf. ;)

R3,599 would be a far more fair as a retail price.
 
Cant wait for the proper drivers to be released, see what this card can really do. On paper this card sure does look good, many reviews I have read state that this card will outlast a 8800 (don't ask me which reviewer, i have read dozens).

I would be quite tragic if it didn't outlast G80. Nvidia will probaly release a new part in November/December, don't think ATI will. Since Nvidia released their card a lot sooner it's quite obvious there's will have to be replaced sooner than ATI's.
 
Thats what he started out with in this thread, testing the card under Vista.

Read the first few posts.. but I'm not sure if there were any actual benchamrk results.

Didn't you run it in Call Of Juarez? Could you compare the G80 to the R600 in DX 10 maybe?

I went back to the first few pages myself, and checked out that COJ screenshot, (its great btw) but your username on photobucket.. Mzekezeke? You a fan??

I somehow can't imagine Mzeks himself OC'ing the latest hardware in his next music video...
 
Oh, soz about that :P , missed that one post that he said was pointless to test under XP and posted the COJ screenie and also in the first screenshot of 3dmark05, i saw the desktop and assumed XP :) my bad :)

Still running benchmarks (games), only one more to do then I will have results...
All tests are being done in Vista don't see the point really of worrying about XP Drivers at this point :/

yeah that's right..I spoke to a local computer parts distributor once and asked why our prices are so inferior to other places around the world. He says that it's because the main distributors control the price. The rectrons, musteks etc because they have deals with Intel/AMD etc to buy in bulk. Dealers then buy from those guys so that introduces an extra channel and prices are sort of being dictated. This was a few years ago though...in 2002.

Not sure how the landscape has changed now. Intel/AMD also specify that there are minimum amount of units that are required to be purchased if one wants to buy from them directly. Considering the SA retail market isn't as big as other places in the world, it's highly unlikely these shops can source directly from Intel.

I also found the same shop a few days ago, they had prety good pricing, and free shipping on a lot of items.

I've never seen them before though, so I sent an email asking a few questions and still haven't recieved a reply. Maybe try giving them a call to see if they exist first :p
 
as a matter of fact i have yes.

i bought from them only once though: an ATI x850 XT PE. for (what was at that time the cheapest i could find ANYWHERE) R3300 including delivery. it is this old card which i want to upgrade now :D

and i was immensely impressed by their service. i must say i enjoyed the experience. complete opposite of dealing with digital planet, which left me feeling raped and robbed...

hehehehe

well, i supported them end of 2005, beginning 2006 and they underwent a major facelift since then.

they sure do exist, but they couldnt beat prophecy on pricing for the 2900XT. DOH!
