AMD rubs Intel's face in it.

AMD says of Larrabee: "GPUs are hard to design and you can’t design one with a CPU-centric approach that utilizes existing x86 cores."

Over the weekend we learned that Intel has pulled the reins back on Larrabee, the chip giant's supposed answer to the GPGPU question.

Although we already knew that Larrabee wasn't going to be a world beater in the world of 3D gaming, it proposed new thinking that excited game developers and engine programmers such as Tim Sweeney, the mastermind behind the Unreal Engine.

Designing some of the world's best CPUs, Intel's attempt to make a new GPGPU was marred by delays that would have made the product "uncompetitive."

We decided to ask AMD for its take on the Larrabee situation, as it's a company that also has to juggle both CPU and GPU development. Of course the story for AMD is different due to the acquisition of graphics specialist ATI.

Bull****. I recall that HL1 worked well enough on software rendering. That was on a single core PC. Couple of days ago Intel demo'd at 48 core x86 chip.

don't fool yourself... There's a massive difference between HL1 and todays games...

To show you how difficult GPU's are, just look at the track history... ATI have made f/ ups with their GPU's where the Architecture just couldn't compete. Nvidia's famous 5000 series showed up how bad things can get.

Intel doesn't have the experience, and unless they have stolen engineers from ATI and Nvidia, then they won't have the know how... It may take a number of Generations to get Larrabee to a competitive level, but alas, Intel wants to hit it big with their first swing...

Basically what AMD is saying is that intel sucks. Kinda like stating the obvious really...

your head is about to explode now but Intel does not suck, neither does the iPhone, and neither do Golfs.

Obviously intel, iphone and golf does not suck for everyone - many people do actually enjoy those.

VW Golf 5 or 6 GTi - i'm not talking about the mk1, we all hate those.

Actually AMD has had integrated memory controllers since 2005 :p
For the price you pay they are putting intel to shame.

Plus, as a bonus, they are not trying to monopolize the x86 industry which can be seen as a beneficial long term advantage to us.

As I said, intel does not suck for everyone - some people actually like them - and I completely understand that.

I don't really care about who had the IMC first :p, it just goes to show how bad AMD is. They've been using the IMC for 4 years now and still can't produce CPUs that perform well overall.

The point is, Intels flagship cpu pwns AMDs flagship CPU, heck, the entry level i5 (the cpu is cheaper than the 965 too) even pwns it (except in games ofcourse)
 
Lamborghini's flagship pwns Toyota's flagship.

Bang for your buck and fair competition is what AMD is about. The few extra FPS you get cost a lot more and in the end you are still stuck with an intel, which some people actually like. Then again, taste and class are far less of a commonplace than limpdickness. Same goes for iphone and golf - some people actually like those... :p

I can't believe that I agree with you, but I do.
I have always been an Intel fanboi, but I'm buying AMD now.
