AMD welcomes EU fine on Intel

have good allinone mobos for cheap builds that are priced well and perform great

Sorry, but no, give me an integrated ATI chip over one of those Intel chipsets anyday. They are horrific. Try running compiz on a slightly oldish Intel chipset then tell me how great Intel chipsets are.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a situation where you don't get more out of an AMD board than you do out of an equivalently priced Intel board.

The easy way out when confronted with reason and logic.
;)

Yeah I prefer AMD boards too, right now the intel boards are similar priced though and you can get a core2duo to go with it and you have a good system.

Just saying that the intel option is not that bad.. for a windows user mostly.

intel might be ahead in terms of performance, but supporting a company as corrupt as intel purely because they are a little faster than the competitors (whose innovation they constantly pirate) is just wrong.

I can understand why some people dislike M$ and I do not argue with that, they have done wrong, they are trying to make it right.

intel, on the other hand, has always done wrong and they want to continue to do so and they are even saying this ruiling against them is wrong. Now that is just plain wrong.

LMAO :D yeah right, Microsoft is headed by Balmer now you honestly trust him? look at his quotes on the net.. he does not like competition.

Well for starters M$ is going with what the antitrust rules say, also I have seen them starting to play nice so I don't give a crap about what the Steves say.

M$ only pretends to play nice, look at what they did with their "open" document format as an example.

Sadly roux not everyone follows companies because they like them, i buy whats good for my money not because i love amd.

Screw amd if they cannot compete, when they where ahead of intel they screwed us with their high pricing. Now they have to sell their stuff so cheap and still people buy from them, how can you trust a company that sells their goods at a premium and then sells them dirt cheap.

If amd had not sat on their lead and pushed their pricing up they would have developed a better cpu and had more market share, instead that charged a karkload for their flagship products and then core 2 hit them. Bam their flagship products dropped 75% just to compete. Funny how they can rip us off when given the chance yet people still follow them and love them.

Buy what is good and well priced and both intel and amd are good choices now. Cannot understand why people follow companies and not products.

I want my money to do more than just get me the product I need. If you want your money to only buy what it is you want at that moment and to hell with the future - fair enough - its your money.

I support companies that can make the future a lot better for me as consumer. By supporting AMD perhaps you can help increase their market share, and since they drive innovation more than intel this is a good thing.

Thats just one example, there are many other things I can name, but for me spending my money is just as much about where it goes than it is what I get for it.

Well yes good on you for insuring intel makes us the best cpu's for the moment and fastest :).

Glad there are okes like you because it makes intel keep pricing low. I stopped buying amd when i saw the difference between my 3800+x2 and the e6300, paid more for my 3800x2 than the e6300 and it thumped my amd like crazy, from there i never looked back and if amd every produce something faster than intel again i shall buy it.

Intel is doing the same now with the i7.

When amd had a better cpu it was only slightly better not a generation better. Problem with amd is when they had a better cpu they never tried to improve on it and i think it came as a major shock when amd saw the performance of the core 2, they then slashed their cpu prices like crazy.

when your so far ahead you can justify charging 13k for your best cpu, when your only slightly ahead how can you justify 50% off when core 2 dropped?

Strange then that all the greatest innovations come from AMD...

Keep in mind that intel is much bigger (thanks to you) and can do things a lot faster, like pirating innovation and then rushing it into production (maybe we'll have another P3 1Ghz drama soon).

Why roux is it when amd had a better cpu they sat on that cpu and had nothing in pipeline until the core 2 was released? They are a big enough company to make faster cpu's yet they did nothing and looked shell shocked when they saw the performance of core 2.

AMD let me down big time and it still took me awhile to convert over to intel only because a buddie bought the new core2 system and i saw how it beat the amd badly. They did nothing in terms of development while intel readied core 2, only when core 2 hit the market did amd think o kuk we better do something.

So don't come with this rubbish, they are a bigger company blah blah, amd rested on their laurels and got caught out badly, then to blame intel.

I only used AMD until i bought my e6300, i just do not like the fact that amd betrayed my loyalty to them by not developing before core 2 was unleashed. I saved up for so long for my 3800x2 and then 3 months after people told me wait for core 2 i thought no ways amd is the business. Anyways learnt my lesson on that one. I was still telling my intel buddie that amd's quadcore will better than intel boy again was i wrong when they FINALLY released a quadcore.

You're timing just sucks - or you upgrade too frequently.

I had intels from 1995 to 2001 (486DX2/66 up to P2 333MHz). Then I moved to AMD and in the past 8 years I only upgraded 4 times, initially to my first AMD, an Athlon 1500XP, then the 2800XP followed by the Ahtlon64 3000 and finally my current 6000X2. All of them where dirt cheap and excellent buys at the time. The rest of the time I had no money to spend on computers anyway.

AMD does R&D constantly - hell where do you think all the X86 innovations come from? I think you would have to work for them to know if they are doing nothing and just cashing in on what they already have. My guess is that being smaller and knowing how fast intel can move, they do not sit around and rested on their laurels. It just takes time, thats all.

Ok so you never explained to me why amd did no developing before core 2 hit? Your only answer is intel stole their stuff. Why did amd only re-act when core 2 was released, intel released i7 before amd's new cpu's so why did amd not release another gen of cpu's when they had the lead? Why did intel have a quadcore out way before amd?

I do upgrade a lot, i had many an amd cpu and i would say i was buying a new cpu every 4-6 months, same with vga cards whats the problem with that? I like my games and apps to run as fast as possible. Are you saying you upgrade less on an amd but you felt the need to upgrade intel all the time?

I dunno being an ex amd boy i guess i can see the flip side of the coin and that is amd let the ball drop and intel moved a generation ahead, now they welcome a huge fine because intel keep developing and wanting more speed where as they just sit and wait for the shyte to hit the fan and then o noes intel came out with a great cpu, whatever shall we do. Well for starters AMD just because you have a good product does not mean you will forever so you should start developing a new cpu long before your rival comes up with one that slams your face through a wall.

Let's call me a disgruntled fan of AMD or maybe disappointed is better :). I wanted to move to amd when their first quad's hit the market but by that time i had had my q6600 for sometime and when i saw the benchies i was shocked at how poor their quads where. Really thought their top quad could atleast rival intels mid range but it struggle to run with intel's baby the q6600.

These things work in cycles. You cannot expect AMD to be in the lead all the time. Development on new cpus start many years before the product actually comes to market. AMD might be on top again in the not to distant future if one looks at their development goals. Trust me, it's not AMDs goal to dissapoint you as they will be the ultimate losers in the end.

WOAH you must have a lot of spare cash. I'm still running a laptop with a Turion from 2005/2006 and I see no need to upgrade just yet as it runs everything I need well enough. Especially with what is happening in the laptop market with graphics chipsets, I'll wait for the chipset race that ATI is having with itself to calm down a little and pick up a machine with a nice GPU in it.

Then again I don't play the latest games, and my most demanding OS is XP. I think the newest game I own is Warcraft3. :p

Intel to me are rubbish.
Whatever i buy that is for a Intel breaks or as factory faults.

I've had my AMD machine for over 4 years now the only think i've done is upgrade my RAM and Graphics card.

AMD Lover for life!!

Porch it is not about having a lot of cash, i sell and buy and it costs me very little to upgrade if the socket is the same, so it's not like i am buying a whole new system, normally just a cpu, that is why i have not gone i7 yet as i do not actually the speed anymore because windows 7 is bloody fast and my ssd compliments everything and makes everything so fast.

In my need for speed i figured out a key element to a fast pc is a fast hdd like a raptor or sdd :).
