Tell me this, if Mercedes take away the C180 does that mean the ENTIRE C CLASS IS GONE? NO it only means the entry level gets taken away to make room for another model at the top. Well that is what is happening to the AMD lineup.

And Guess what the AMD Athlon X2 does not exist,it is called "
AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor".

Now before taking your foot and placing it firmly in your mouth again go read up on what an Athlon 64 is and what it can do. BTW the X2 series simply contain 2 Athlon 64's on one die. THe 4800+ contains 2 4000+ cores.

bang for buck amd cpu would be the x2-3800 right now. cheaper than the 4000+

Well kinda depends on what you plan on doing with the CPU. If you are going to be doing moslty things that are single threaded then the X2 3800+ is a huge waste. The 3800+ runs 2 x 2.0Ghz 512K cache per core. This means it consists out of 2 Athlon 64 3000+ cores. Games for example you only use 1 core so no speed increase.

Click Go down to the UT2004 scores. Look at the 4000+ vs 4800+ vs 3800+. As you will see the 4000+ and 4800+ are about the same but the 3800+ is much slower. Remember the 4800+ = 2x4000+.

Click Now lets look at WinRAR. Pretty much the same as with UT2004. But then comes a big multi threaded app, 3ds max 7. It fully uses all the CPU's/Cores that it can. Now here the 4800+ is double as fast as the 4000+ and the 3800+ really does impress.

Click Next we have some video encoding that uses dual core. As you can see the 3800+ beats the 4000+ again.

If you plan on doing things like 3d rendering or video encoding then the 3800+ is great. If not then you simply sit with an overpriced 3000+.

They give the same performance for single threaded apps.

I actually want to build a cheap rendering PC using a 3800+. I currently run a 4000+ and using a 3800+ as a main PC wont do, I play games so 3000+ speeds are slow compared to the 4000+ I have now.

I would say wait for the Dual cores to drop in price and for Vista, which afaik will use full mutli threading, to be released.
