Well I was specifically referring to FGM, where they cut all the external genitalia, which is probably the first few results in Google as well.

I also see no need to cut skin, but yeah, if done in a theatre, I don't see any savagery.

Go watch a kid getting circumcised in the theatre. Its not fun.

The Muslim and Jewish ways of doing it are definitely savage though.
