An Android tablet PC boom in 2011

:P

Ever since picking up an HTC desire over an iphone 4 I've been hooked on android devices. And I have been drooling over these android tabs for the last couple months now. Can't wait for the asus EEE pads to drop in SA!

Me too. I bought one of those cheap knock off pads about 6 months ago. It's cool if you like tinkering but is not very functional currently. They keep releasing updates which improves things but compared to the iPad, it's really crap.

I personally want the Android Adam by NotionInk, sick sick sick

i wonder what the prices will be like compared to the ipad. I'm a fan of Apple products (MBP and iPhone) but I don't think I could justify paying too much extra for something that I'll use for ebooks, emagazines, some movies and email/browsing...

maybe mobile networks will finally consolidate hardware across data/voice packages and lose the blooming bundled 3g dongles.
i'm sick and tired of having to buy a phone with voice and a laptop with data only.

wow, an article subtitled "Android-based tablet PCs promise to be this year's big winner" that does not even mention iPad, the pink elephant in the room.
From all industry reports that I've read, iPad will be grabbing the lion's share of the tablet market this year, with competitors roughly 1 year behind technologically. So, Android-based tablets will be the Zunes and ... wow, I can't even remember the names of any non-Apple mp3 players...!
Article again confirms my impression that the entire IT-industry of South Africa seems to be somehow anti-Apple.

They are probably more anti-core than anti-apple. The tablets announced at CES are *way* ahead of the iPad technologically.

I'd be careful saying things like that. By now I've realised that cramming more tech into something doesnt make it better. Making something that is easy to use and well designed is far more important to me. Blackberry Storm versus iPhone anyone?

battery life, screen size? App ecosystem with, what, 300000 aps, iTunes integration. wireless printing? And Apple has enormous economies of scale when it comes to RAM pricing. So, they won't compete on price, or offer hardware specs below that of the iPad.
Also, a product announced is not a product actually put on the market. The tablet Ballmer "announced" last year turned out to be vaporware. And it's easy to say, as RIM did: look, our Playbook, coming out in 6 months will be ahead of the iPad of LAST YEAR! Anyway, we'll see.

How could the author FORGET?!
With a title like "An Android tablet PC boom in 2011", how could they NOT mention the iPad, for certain the best Android-based device EVER!!

For you, yes.

And me :)

I have 7 Android based tablets now and love them. 5 * 10.2 Inch and 2 * 8 Inch. The whole family uses them and we all love them.

It is down to personal choice. You prefer apple then use apple. You prefer android then use android. If we did not have choice there would not be competition that would make the products we love better.
