Go humour us. How many of them do you think were living in squalor before and after apartheid ended?

Exactly! The reasons for white and black poverty are very different. Thanks Fudzy! :D

How they became poor? The reasons are very different. I don't need to spell it out for you do I?

There is no doubting that poverty exists across all racial lines in SA. To break it down and start addressing and even reporting on them as separate issues is really not going to accomplish anything and in my books boils down to irresponsible reporting. Like I said, the introduction of the report reeks of agenda-pushing...

I have watched programs on the telly about poor black people. I don't have a problem with that, in fact I am for it. Same goes for any racial group suffering from poverty and there is a program about it. I think its good to report on it.

Exactly, I would love to see a report on how hard South Africa is on the poor, irrespective of colour I don't think poor blacks get any beneficial treatment, certainly not in the job market. There aren't many whites out there willing or wanting to do the work that poor blacks do.

LOL. Careful with the ambiguity there. I'm pretty sure you didn't mean to imply that you're okay with black poverty...:D

You are still not saying why white people live in poverty. What's with the ducking and diving ala Apache?

You generalizing about a specific racial group there. You are also doing exactly what DJ... is speaking out against and yet you are agreeing with his post.

For skilled labour ... there is plenty of work.

Attaining those necessary skills is still a bridge that South Africa is yet to overcome. But I don't agree that there is a blanket hole in our economy for this. In certain sectors, absolutely...

No, I'm highlighting the challenge of employment equity, too many pale faces at the top, not enough at the bottom in comparison to too many black faces at the bottom and not enough at the top.

Well the video clearly states that less educated Afrikaner whites were given a social safety net during the apartheid days. In other words they were given low paying jobs, health care, schooling et cetera as a reward for voting for the NATs. So they were able to stay out of poverty. When apartheid fell that safety net also fell, now they are poor and living in shacks and what not.

The reason why blacks are poor is very different obviously. There are just too many of them for the ANC gov to assist them like the NATS assisted less educated Afrikaner whites. Comprehend?

If you want it you can get it. If these buggers living in trailer parks would stop drinking and fking and get off their asses and work harder they could rise above their current conditions. I dont know how many times when I was younger. I worked as a barman or waiter just to get enough money in to better myself. Even now, at 30 something. I am starting a new degree completely unrelated to my work. If you are a good hard worker, there is almost always work for you. Even if its casual.

Oh yeah, thanks for your signature btw (Southbit). I sent a server to them to be recovered :D

There are thousands of stories about white kids not getting into universities or not getting particular jobs because of their skin colour. Black on white racism exists, in fact its government policy. I dont see how highlighting how this could produce a few negative results is somehow a bad thing.

They were still poor back then. They've just had the carpet ripped from under them. No difference to non-whites who were also poor back then, and hardly anything has been done to rectify that. No point in separating the poverty issues into these ridiculous racial lines. Don't you agree?

Do you think the people in the video are the results of that? :erm:

Its not about racial lines. The reason why those different people are in poverty is different and that's what the video was highlighting. Nothing wrong with it.

RT and fox as far as I know are some of the worst source of news

I know you'd agree that the problem runs far deeper than that. That is far too much of an over-simplification and generalisation to really be considered an argument for why poverty still exists...

Kudos for that. The economics will do wonders for you. I'm holding thumbs that you pull out of this socialist mindset. We'll see...:D

Even if its casual.

You'll soon learn that casual labour is hardly even a metaphorical bandaid for the economy and never lifts anyone out of poverty, from a macro point of view...

Great stuff. I'm glad it could help send some work their way - I owe it to them...
