Lappie has only an analog out for an external monitor. Looking for a cable to enable me to hook it up to a TV. Needs to be S-video or RCA...

IC said they no longer stock them and I should try Audiovision
Audiovision said they don't have them and I should try Hamrad Electronics in town, where I have not yet been.

Anyone know of anywhere else?

IC told me to go to Hamrad's as well, but said that they would be ridiculously expensive. I just left it.

Interesting. The guy at Audiovision said it should be like R100 bucks or so depending on length- I reckon they might make it themselves at Hamrad. I thought these would be easier to come by...

I still have no idea what connector your laptop has. It could be VGA as you say monitor (which is analogue) ot it could be one of those funny connectors for Video out.

If it is a VGA analogue connector then you don't get cables to S-Video, you will need electronics to downscale the picture & frequencies. VGA -> Video/S-Video converter.

Maybe post a picture of the connector or a link on the web to the laptop in question.

Problem is my laptop only has a VGA-out. No S-Video. My TV has S-Video as well as component. I tried getting the cables but lost interest.

Haha, it is the same connector as the analog one going into one of my monitors...

Let me google a bit.

It looks a lot like this

Different laptop, but that analog video out is what I am talking about. On the left.

Their site is not working...

Will it work for VGA to S-video as in the pic above? And you have any idea of what you might pay?

The closest I got to that was a DVI-VGA converter, but even then it couldn't work because the "sexes" of the cables were "gay", if you know what I mean?

Video analog out = RCA. I don't think you need any converters but don't quote me on that.

I wish S-Video would just die already, it's the most annoying thing ever when manufacturers come out with proprietary "standards".

But I'd need at least a cable with VGA on one side and RCA on the other?

You can buy a PC to TV kit at Esquire for under R500. That takes your VGA plug and converts it to RGB and RCA...

:o)
