Actually should add my own "take" on things in this regard.

I don't think CR is necessarily bad per se, I think he is smart and more than capable of running the country, BUT he is looking for a consensus model of leading and currently that is the worst thing for us. We need him to grow a backbone and make the unpopular decisions, to challenge (and beat) the unions etc etc... Stop trying to get people to agree, and just do shyte that we need done.

There is more than likely much backroom jostling going on that we of course know nothing about, but its very quickly becoming irrelevant.

Yes, that would be ideal. Unfortunately what it'll do is unite the fight-back campaign and the more socialist factions and make his life difficult. He's in the unenviable role of having the snakes right in the same bed. To get **** done he'd need to turn into something of a Zuma (but for the good) and a bit of Mbeki. He'd risk a real chance of recall before the end of his first term, so maybe he's playing some kind of long game (I'm not confident).

The fight-backers should be easy to neutralize through the legal system but that also seems to be acting with a bit too much trepidation. You can be sure that cries of state resources employed to fight political enemies will begin flying about when the indictments of the big fish start flowing in (if they ever do).

Exactly. I mean ANC under JZ got an overwhelming 65%+ in L, where a tiny percentage of people are of Zulu lineage.
