And not all of Europe, Portugal is doing very well with renewables but they have a heavy investment in wind vs solar.

Uhmm Hydro and biomass are included in renewables


Very easy to get 88% when you have 51% of all electricity for January was supplied by Hydro and biomass, wind and solar only did 28%
So yeah solar and wind didn't power them that much.
Also Germany has an even heavier investment in Wind and solar with almost 130GW of those 2 installed

Portugal biomass is largely because they are still heavily agrarian. And there is a lot of fruit wastage last time I was there because large amounts of fruit become ready at the same time and is dirt cheap locally but quite literally rots.

Strawberries and cherries, massive amounts. Which is sad considering the price of cherries locally.
