ANC considers tablets for schools

-Textbooks last for years. this will be an ongoing expense. Drop your bag- tablet broken. Drop it off your table- finished, and if you do look after it, the battery will probably go in a short few years.
-Every criminal will know where they can get a steady supply- target any kid in a school uniform.
-If limpopo can't get textbooks to school, they're not going to suddenly get tablets there.
-textbooks are not all of a sudden going to be free because they're on a tablet. printing only accounts for about 10% of a books cost. So now you're going to be paying close to full price on a textbook, plus the expense of a tablet, and you wont just be able to pass those books on to a new device when you move onto the next grade, because they will no doubt have some form of DRM
- kids are going to play games in class. No doubt about it, and you wont know a thing.

The education department jumps on these things without thinking them through. It was like that time they supplied every school with a computer and iburst contract intending to use them as car licencing terminals or something. Cost millions, paid data costs for years and nothing ever came of that.
If they really think they can get this to work, I hope they have a pilot program for an extended period at one or two schools first.

They're going to need extension cords with 30 plug points in every class room...

Textbooks aren't delivered to Limpopo students, myBroadband forumites argue the long term benefits of rolling out tablets.

Tablet rollout suggested, oh no it's not a good idea, they'll use it for porn.
What do we want exactly?

A better life for ALL. Not another self enriching money making scam by the brainless ANC idiots in the education department.

They're just making all the right noises before election time.

The DA Student Organisation, made the same promise before the NMMU student elections. Almost a year later, and no one got a free tablet. This is just noise before an election, nothing more.

Yeah, major BS. Was looking forward to my free tablet.

Done right this could work very well and actually be logistically more sensible than textbooks.

Firstly you don't have stock piles of books to warehouse and ship to schools...so no potential ****ups there. Everything is digital.

Secondly the devices can be managed and strictly controlled so saying they'll play games on it is stupid.

Lastly providing content to kids and writing exams and what not could be infinitely enhanced going digital. Imagine you have a test in class? Simply publish it from a web service and everyone writes their tests.

All results are instantly available to the teach and marking is infinitely easier and faster and everything is documented.

It sounds illogical at first, but if done right it could solve so many current issues.
