Are they free? (Silly question I know). Can cadre Carl still apply, or has he cooked his goose?

So, how did it work with the old card?
Manually, There was a well known issue of disputes before conferences where delegates would arrive there and discover their membership isn't up to date and therefore could be accredited.

I take it now you will be able to log into some portal, pay up and be able to know your status at any time.

Their registrar has never been digitised?

Look, I can see how the "smart" card can come in handy: swipe and go, unless there is an issue with the system.

It is good to have an authentication system in place, especially with instruments like OAuth that are enabled with smart cards. Basically, any person, without having any IT knowledge, could use such a system. This said, without having any other security mechanisms in place, somebody else could use any card. Checks are still necessitated.

I am curious, though, whether this "smart" system will have a social credit system?
