Johannesburg - "It shows you who leaves the country: all the right-wingers," ANC spokesperson Jessie Duarte said after the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on Thursday announced the results of South Africans who voted abroad.

The opposition parties got the most of the 9 857 votes. A total of 7 581 voted for the DA, 918 voted for Cope, 270 voted for the FF+, 184 voted for the ACDP and 136 voted for the ID.

The ANC received 673 votes from South Africans overseas.

Duarte's views came after government this week praised South Africans overseas for their patriotism and interest.

Themba Maseko, the chief government spokesperson, said the optimism with which people voted in especially London, heartened government and showed that South Africans gained knowledge overseas, which they later would apply back home.

Meanwhile, it also came to light that between 500 and 600 overseas votes had gone missing as the relevant embassy(ies) did not follow the necessary procedures.

A spokesperson for the IEC on Thursday evening confirmed that there had been problems with some of the overseas votes, but said that they would only be able to release more details on Friday.

This woman deserves to be shot.

Number one, most ex pats voted DA. Which as we all know is not a right wing party. However this is very worying as by association she is now saying DA supporters are right wing. Very ****ing worrying actually not for us ex pats but for you guys at home.

It is of course sour grapes , she's acting like a little schoolgirl. I seriously hope some real right winger drives his 4x4 up her ass, will stop the **** flowing up her body to be spewed out her mouth.

This woman irritates me!

We can of course now expect them to try and stop the ex-pats from voting...again...

if right wing means highly qualified white males that cant get a job or further their careers in SA due to skewed racial government policies, or victims of savage crimes, then she may have a point. ;)

I am sure, come the next election, the rest of the expats will be allowed to register and vote based on the constitutional court rulling. Guess the ANC will have to change a few more laws of the land before then.

I don't understand how they can just get away with saying stuff like this? This is a slap in the face of 16% of the population as well.

I wonder if the ANC actually wants my vote? Because if they keep hiring cretins like these, they'll never ever get it.

This woman really irritates me.

She is always making ridiculous statements. The other day she called a black journalist racist because he asked her if Zuma reads his blog. She then went on to say What ... do you think Zuma can't read? Bwhahahaha it was funny. She's a freaking cretin.

From the tone of ANC supporters calling to radio stations, the ANC and its ilk consider anyone who do not support it to be racist right wing renegades.

Thanks to people like Duarte in the public eye spreading this filth.

Only 9 857 expats voted? I thought about 80 000 people registered overseas to vote, what happened to the rest of the voters? Another question I have is what happened to the 800 000 people who left this country since 1994? Why didin't they register and vote?

My family just don't care anymore :( They live in the USA and they never ever want to come back. Not even for a visit.

Now you folk are starting to get the picture, if you white and intelligent, then your vote does not matter or count. Sure, that's negative thoughts, just like Smelly Duarte says.

A lot of people who have left SA feel like that. You can't blame them either!

I know, but I still miss them. Wish they would come to visit.

All my cousins have also gotten married there. I would like to meet their new families.

Soz... that was a bit offtopic.

Yea i know what you mean. My family hit UK. It's not easy and it shouldn't have to resort to families being split up.
