Dude I admire your strong opposition to the independence of the Cape really I do, however as stated before at the moment it's a waiting game (Well for me at least) to see how the Cape Party handles this. I know within the 2 threads that are currently being posted to there are people making silly statements (from both sides of the argument). I'm going to ask one of the Cape Party founders to come to the forum and discuss all of the issues raised and to answer questions anyone may have (myself included). They need to clear up a few things and to set some people straight (People talking about race/elitism etc).
They way I see things it has nothing to do with any of the above, it's just normal, highly motivated people wanting to live in a safe prosperous area and are trying to get it off the ground, sure there are some "fuzzy" parts but I think we have to give them a chance to clear them up. I also realise there are people like yourself that consider themselves to be South African and love South Africa and would oppose anything like this as it would break the country up.
Truth be told if there was another party doing the same thing in any of the other provinces I'd be supporting them too. I love S.A. and I love being a South African, and I'm proud to be one, however in my opinion, South Africa's days are numbered and I really cannot see South Africa ever attaining it's past glory (and no I'm not talking about apartheid). This country had so much promise and so much potential circa 1994 and none of it, absolutely none of it has been realised. 15 years is more than enough time to at least make a decent start, but unfortunately the current government has resorted to type (African politics, see failed states of Africa) where nepotism, and corruption are rife.
I'm not denying this doesn't happen elsewhere of course but not on a par as it is happening in S.A. What's wrong with wanting to live in a relatively crime free, prosperous country/state, one where you do not have to keep looking over your shoulder, one where having electric fences around your property is the exception rather than the norm?
Yes the Cape does have it's problems with all of the above but under the right governance it will soon sort itself out. The DA in fact has the ball in their court, and under them the Cape can prosper, and prove that it can be done in S.A. in a relatively short space of time. (See Captetownguy's threads). This even with the ANC trying to stonewall them every step of the way. Unfortunately the DA has a national agenda (which of course is their perogative) and they are being very unrealistic if they think they can ever achieve a national win. Just as unrealistic as a independent Cape? Maybe, but again time will tell.
In my view the Western Cape is the province that has the highest potential to become the best province in the country in respect of crime etc, and it stands to reason that it would be the best candidate as a starting point for the "repairing" of South Africa, a stepping stone if you will. To such a degree that maybe independence won't be necessary, but in the mean time I think to have a "back up plan" is the way to go. To me that back up plan is The Cape Party.
