I got clumsy.

The camera in the other pic is the replacement (it's branded as a Rebel XTi rather than EOS400D) and having a reserve will be nice. :)

Yeah - I need to dig out my insurance policy and see what my deductible will be.

It will do but I'm still unsure as to what my deductible is.

Dang... and a new one cost you R2.8k - man but this is a rip off!! - See what it will cost o/seas to fix - then again, its an insurance problem - yr deductible should be quite a bit less.

Remember though a new one here would cost r7800.
 
Man my a$$ hurts just thinking about it. Although R2800 is pretty cheap - how did you manage that? The 400D body is selling for $519 from B&H - that's R3600 odd

You're right of course - the camera was closer to r3800. I remember thinking it was almost exactly half the price of the local pricing.

It's still a significant difference. Even here where things are more expensive than they need to be, a 400D body can be had for about R5000.
 
My deductible is about r400 for the repair which all told isnt that bad. After 12k photos the thing could probably do with a service anyway :D
 
Question is now - which do I use day to day and which do I store away for my next mishap?
 
I guess shoot some with the old one when you get it back to make sure it's still shooting OK. Then make it the primary. That way you can keep your new one relatively unused and sell it for more when you've saved up enough for the 5D...
 
48 days later . . . . finally got my camera back. Everything looks 100% so that good - they even fixed the water damage to the focusing screen (hint: never ever leave the cotton buds you're using to clean the focusing screen lying around if you have a three year old daughter).

But still - 48 days?

Wait until you have to send an HP laptop to their "official support partner" I-CSS. How does 5 months sound for a motherboard replacement. And then I still had to send it back because they f**ked up the DVD drive and hard drive :mad:
 
I thought Canon were supposed to be so good when it comes to repairs. That is one of reasons quoted by the pro Canon lobby.

Sony turned my camera around allot faster than that. Think it was a week or two.
