Anyone have an idea how long Canon takes to repair cameras?

I managed to break the LCD on the back of my EOS 400D this afternoon and I've just learned that they wont even be able to look at it until the new year because they're CLOSED! (btw what is up with this country and everything closing!)

@bwana, not wanting to rub salt into your wound - sorry to hear about the broken LCD, but does this mean that you're going to be using one [searchforum]fugly camera[/searchforum] for a while, or have you already shipped that off to Debbie2?

PS: ditto killadoob's question - although these things are not robust and easy to break without even trying.

yea ic but its fun rippin ppl off if they say broke it while drunk or some funny story :)
A friend of mine managed to drown the Cannon camera he had borrowed from his father, when my friend's boat sank in the Vaal River.

Err, thats not the 400D.

Sorry to hear Bwana. I'd try see if theres any Canon authorised repair places around.

How did you manage to break it?

just out interest how did you break it?

Comment to follow :)
Agh well someone put something down on the strap - I went to go put it away and it didnt feel like competing the journey and it hit the table.

Nah - thats my kids camera - she usually grabs my dSLR so we figured something a bit more kid friendly would better suit a three year old. :)

for some reason this site doesn't work at night, but you could contact them and ask if they do repairs, although i doubt it. your best bet is to go directly to canon and speak to them. another site you could contact is orms, but again, i doubt they do repairs. they're most likely to direct you to the company itself.

That's a pity man, I see the newer camera's come with the lcd covered by a layer of glass to protect it. You must have wacked it really hard then :p

The surface layer is still intact. :o

Bwana....Now can you imagine if Canon never provided a repair service.

If it was up to Core (Apple), they would expect you to go out and buy a new one.

Core and Apple overseas have never failed to repair or replace anything I've sent in - and trust me I've damaged a lot of their stuff in my time in and out of its warranty period. ;)

Besides - if the camera isnt repairable it gets replaced - thats the beauty of insurance. :)
