Andor

Spaceballs? Did I see a light saber fight between spaceships? Ok just 1 ship had light sabers, but still. "We need more saber action in the series, lets do something new."...."Lets do a spaceship with sabers!"

He had the tie fighters perfectly lined up for a shot, yet he decided to risk being shot down to rather destroy them with his SPACESHIP LIGHT SABER!

Yeah it was stupid but considering how great the series was I'm not too bothered about some of the silly moments. Great date night, I aint gonna moan because she farts on the way out.

EckhartsLadder did a vid on it and why he thought Luthen used them.

Why he used them, why did he think that light sabers is a good idea on a space ship? The sabers are completely ridiculous and detracts from the great scene.

Luthen has a huge interest in all things Jedi/Sith such as the holocrons in his gallery and him giving Andor his sky kyber crystal. While they may detract it's probably as Eck pointed out in how James Bond uses all the gadgets in his modified cars. A lot of it is for show as he didn't even need to turn around to go and attack the TIE fighters. He just did it out of hate of the Empire and wanting to show off.

He did it because the writers came up with a dumb idea and implemented it. It could never make sense, it is spaceballs level dumbness. 1Other bad thing was making the dumb robot stutter like a human.

Why can't a unwiped droid not develop anxiety traits after long enough? All the droids seem to develop individual personality traits if left unwiped long enough.

The droid was not too bad, it was just a bit annoying and seemed forced to be there without any real role to play. The stuttering R2 stand-in without any role.

> Flies right next to cruiser which clearly has no weapons capable of hitting his ship
> Decides to use ship lightsaber on disposable tie fighters rather than against an expensive capital ship
> But sure he is our guy and definitely not an ISB asset

I honestly think as cool as this scene was, they are breaking lore quite badly. There have been numerous instances of smallish ships like the Fondor hovercraft (or Falcon) being able to get close to a capital ship, which means they could just use the ship-saber to go and disable the capital ship's shields or something like that and pretty much deal it a killing blow.

Technically, only droids that have an advanced enough problem solving capability get this trait. C3PO is too stupid to get much of a personality which is why he is pretty much the same after he gets wiped in ROTS.

Kyber crystals were extremely difficult to get after the Jedi purge and constructing an actual lightsaber using one was an art form. The cost of something like that would have been astronomical which the rebellion wouldn't have been able to afford. So it was probably a one-off thing and we don't see or hear about Luthen in Rogue One so there is a good chance that he gets killed and his ship destroyed.

B-Wings were more affordable and effective at attacking capital ships, but also difficult to produce and pilot.

The B-Wing in Rebels was literally deemed too expensive with a gun that can take out a cruiser with one shot. That was the canon reason. The actual reason was the same as Luthen's ship-sabers, it is too powerful and breaks any form of tension.

Tried to watch this again tonight. Just can't do it.

Guys, episode one on it’s own sucks. Keep watching, it gets a lot better, and you’ll later realise the value of some of the lame stuff.
Yeah episode 1 is quite slow and because it's a different kind of Star Wars it takes a moment to get your bearings. But I find this a great series to recommend to people who don't generally like Star Wars or haven't ever watched much SW because of how different it feels to any SW before it. And the writing and acting was consistently good throughout. The clunky moments didn't really bother me either because really that's just gonna be nitpicking.
