Hi All,

I am faced with a bit of a dilemma. My contract is up for renewal, and i have the following choices.

1. Blackberry Bold 9780
2. Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo (Andriod) & 500 mb data per month.

I would like to know the following

1. Will 500mb be enough for email, facebook & the odd app? I have wireless at home so downloading apps is not a problem( will be done over wifi).
2. Is BB really worth it? to be "online & connected" 24/7 i dont chat much, mainly sms & phone.

any help/suggestion will be appreciated.

thanks
William

500MB is plenty if you will be using Wi-fi at home.

I have an Android (HTC Desire) and my mom and sister both have the BB bold.

I still prefer my Android phone over the BB.

I'm quite glad I dont have BBM, because everyone that has a BB seems permanantly glued to the damn thing. I like to live in real life :D

thanks for the response.

agree with u dont want to be glued to the phone.

regards

Its like a frikkin disease, however the always on line internet or the push e mail function is extremely useful.
No need to log on or connect for either.

My gmail gets pushed to my phone instantly. That feature is pretty much standard across the board with smartphones nowadays.

1. Yes
2. No. Most modern phones have push e-mail support these days.

If you have lots of friends with BB and you MUST chat with them through BBM...then get the BB if you REALLY have to. But the fact that you are asking suggests you don't NEED the BB, so... get the Android and start being AWESOME!

Also remember, Android has a ton of awesome apps. You can get it to do some awesome stuff. I've got an app called CIFS Manager - it lets me take any shared folder on my pc, and map it to a folder in the andriod system. Then android thinks that that shared folder from the PC is actually on the phone itself. So it's like I have all my music and movies and series on my phone every time I walk into range of my wifi. And I can just do an easy copy paste (with any of the tons of file manager apps out there) if I want to copy a folder over to the sdcard to take with me. It's awesome to just have your PC folders automatically on your phone and accessible from ANY app that can open a file.

my wife has BB Torch, I just got Desire S with 300 mb data, have played with wife's and find Android way better, also love the whole sync between my gmail, calendar and outlook which is so seamless. have got wife on whatsapp, so we can chat and don't need bbm, I'm also having great fun discovering new apps (just downloaded the official IRB RWC 2011 app)

I'd definitely recommend the android option

Hey all,

thanks very much for all the input, greatly appreciated.

think im gonna go with andriod :)

Probably too late, but I'm a BB user and I'm going android next year...

A couple of questions:
What is your current phone?
What do you use your phone for?
What are you looking to use your phone for?
What is more important? Hardware VS Software?

From where I am now.
Either upgrade to a 9900 or step away from Blackberry.
Pre 9900 blackberry phones have severely gimped hardware to make up for their BIS service.

Android offers a selection of applications that can do what Blackberry Bis can do at a cost.
The only thing to keep in mind with Android is the current phonje and where you are going to be in 2 years time. Things are moving dramatically fast on the mobile tech front with dual core phoneslike the Atrix being one of the more advanced phones.
A lot of the current phones that are out for Android will not be upgraded to later versions of Android so be mindful of the phone you get.

Same here.
I'm changing over in December when I have an additional contract that is due for an upgrade.
I'm looking at the Motorola Atrix at this stage.

Okay, I had a BB Bold 9000, switched over to Android (SGS) and I must say Android is much nicer than BB, but about 95% of things I do on my Android I can do on the BB. That 5% is quite a big deal, because there is going to be something that you feel your BB doesn't do nicely, or lacking. And the number of Android apps are really growing really fast. So that 5% is like hope, something might come out soon that I just can't live without.

But having said all of that I will probably consider the BB9900 for my new upgrade. If it can give me anything close to the experience I receive on my Bold 9000 (except for the faulty trackball issue, which shouldn't be an issue now) I might switch back. Android is really nice and I like doing stuff like controlling my tv with my phone etc, but I really think I can live without all that apps right now. If you just want to be able to email, phone, sms and browse the net a fair amount and download youtube movies - go BB. If you want to experiment, control your coffee machine (which is possible I think) go Android. On this forum, we all harp on how awesome Android and iOS etc is, but you must remember that this forum is very technically inclined. So really go sit down and look at what your requirements are and make a choice accordingly.

I sooo agree with PhoneJunky, esp about recommendations on the forum side. 9 times out of 10 I recommend Android here but in real life when I know the people I normally end up recommending BB to "Users", or even iOS when I know they have loads of $$.

So to be honest to make a better suggestion on what you should get, we would need to know more about what you want out of a phone, with a post count of 3 we know way to little to say anything accept that both devices can email, sms and surf the web.

Oh @PhoneJunky, I just ordered a Android ADK for just that reason, to control my peculator, for a start, from an Android device.

Hmm, I might try that too then - I see it is not that expensive.

Well on the upgrade front, if I am going Android again it will be the Sensation. I played with the SGS2 and event though it feels much faster than my SGS it doesn't wow me to the extent the SGS did. It still feel like I can do everything the SGS2 can do at the moment, and I would rather get the Sense experience then. But I must say, I am really looking forward to see what the BB9900 can do and I think that if it lives up to my expectations I am probably going to get it rather.

I must confess that I am not so sure that the BB9900 or their OS7 phone range will be the saving grace for Blackberry that everyone is hoping it will be.

The new OS7 is hardly the revolutionary that it was touted to be with minimal changes being apparent..."If aint broke dont fix it" is not enought in the current tech trends.
Innovation. Adaptability. UI.

One of the obvious "broken" issues they have still not "fixed" is Flash support.
Still no flash support...still?
