Android 8.1 beta launched

What's the point when you don't insist your OEMS update their devices? I can get not updating a 3 year old device, but a two year old device should still get an update at least. I'm starting to look at Apple just because of this fact, my LG G4 never went past Marshmallow though it was promised to go to Nougat.

there is always ROMS, that get much more frequent updates.
I got tired of the manufacturers deciding when to update my device after its warrenty expired,

so got CRdroid for my wileyfox swift, got an update last week in my case, still waiting for a stable verion of oreo
but we sit and wait, nougat works pretty well in any case.

Unless you're stuck on a device that has a locked bootloader :-( the G4 really was a crap purchase.

sure there are quite a few ways to unlock it,

my swift was similar, took a lot of playing around and PM people on XDA, but I got mine unlocked....
and thewn its fun! you get updates almost once a month, as well as substratum support as well as root and lots more....

the original didnt have any of this,

Going to check, I'm sure last time the one we happened to get in SA wasn't supported, the H815p but will check.

awesome stuff , sure it wont be as hard as you think it is,

my swift was difficult, until I figured out you need to follow the instructions to the letter,
and then it works, and works well.

and the best part is, you never have to do it again! its like a driving license, sweat through it once, never have to worry again..

Oreo fixes that. Why my next upgrade will be a device shipping with Oreo.

Yep. Oreo allows your device to get updated with each and every android release.
Hopefully my Mi5 gets it.

Are they just going to push to all devices? What about potential compatibility issues with older hardware going forward (not fast enough, etc)?

Exciting nonetheless!

Eish silly question,
Can you not root directly by using kingroot?

My innjoo had something similar, try get the legit version of kingroot and give it a go.
Nope it's completely locked down

Yours seems to be a bit more involved than my swift ever was, and I battled with my swift getting it unlocked.

But apparently you need to get a code from lg, after creating a developer account, and get a specific file to unlock the bootloader?

You did all of that? And still didn't work?
Hmmm still think you didn't do everything.

Yup. The model we've got in SA is locked, I've had the full Android experience:) from my Xperia Mini to a Redmi Note 3 on custom roms. My note3 was x stolen though so back to the G4 :(
