Hi all,

I've finally been given a work e-mail address and it's obviously going via Exchange (OWA) but I don't have a PC to setup it up on (by choice) and want to set it up on my phone.
I tried to set it up with a MS application and it worked, but I had to enable HIGH SECURITY on my phone which is a pain because the only password it accepts is this long ass typed password.

The program that works but is a pain is this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.office.outlook
There is another program, but I can't seem to get it to work (with the same settings): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.exchange.mowa

Boxer allows you to add a Gmail account but as soon as you want to add a Exchange, it costs $9.99.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried Llama (it's free) and it seems to work ok. It uses cell towers to get position so it's nice to keep the gps off. Not sure if I'll keep using the positional thing, but being able to toggle lockscreen on/off with wifi is quite handy and exactly what I wanted.

Was gonna suggest Outlook, but I see you're already using that. :(

So between llama, takser and Automate. Which do you find best? I'm currently using llama, the automate looks very impressive and I know tasker is all powerful but it is paid for :(

Specifically, I'm looking to use wake on lan to wake up my pc when my phone connects to home wifi.

I use tasker, never tried the others and its paid for itself time and time again over the last like 5 years.

Yeah. Thinking that maybe I should just go for it.. Does the plugins cost money as well?
Some if them do, they not all made by the developer. I think I have only actually bought 1. I can have tasker send pushbullet pushes. Everything else I do is within tasker. It really depends on if you need that really abnormal feature that is not in tasker.

You can get Tasker for free if you know where to look, but rather support the developer and pay for it.

Does anyone know of a decent mobile email app that supports POP3 and has spam filtering? I've been using the Gmail app for all my mobile email quite happily for a while now, but suddenly I'm receiving an amount of spam on my primary POP3 account that is too much to deal with. I'm talking over 100 emails a day. They're just continuously coming in. I use Outlook on desktop and I never see a single one of them, but on mobile it's killing me. I've had to remove the account from Gmail.

Ya dude, that's not your app's fault. Your mail server is ****, less than 10% of all spam should even make it to your inbox server side.
Your app is not supposed to be responsible for filtering spam, which is why the GMail mobile app does not do it at all. Spam filtering is supposed to be done on the server side. You are not likely to find an app that does what a server is responsible for.

You better of looking for a server that was not built using animal dropping as 100 spam mails a day is ludicrous, it obviously has no spam filter on it at all if its that bad.

I'm rather stuck with the mail server I have though. I've logged into the online web interface and checked the settings. Spam filter is on, although it's obviously doing a damn good job.

Outlook is receiving the spam, but just sending it straight to the junk folder and never showing it to me. I'm hoping there's similar functionality to be found somewhere on Android.

Outlook does do it, but that's because its a large scale desktop application not built with the probable limitations of mobile processing power.

The actual purpose of the junkmail filter built into outlook comes into play when one is sitting with an MS exchange server, the black and white list settings set by each individual user is also synced over to the mail server and in some cases is used as part of the global filtering. Its all part of an integrated system.

If your stuck with the awful mail server, then what you could consider is a mailbox wide auto-forward. Setup a secondary account for yourself with Outlook.com or GMail.com. On either of those you can setup a sending address, so it will basically act as a middle man, all outgoing mail will still be tagged with the email address of the POP account.
Your benefits in this will then obviously include the worlds most powerful spam filtering algorithms and the very battery friendly push services. I suspect that if you mail server is so useless at spam filtering that its using standard pull mail which then requires your phone to actually periodically check and fetch new mails.

Either way, this route will be far less painful and easily achievable over trying to find an app that will do this without negatively impacting overall device performance.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll definitely investigate that route if need be. Fortunately I found a service called SpamDrain that filters spam right on the mail server. So the spam never sees any mail client. It's not free, but I'm happy to pay little more than a dollar a month for it. I'm currently using the trial and it seems to be working perfectly. No more spam on my phone, and the list of blocked emails in the SpamDrain interface is already massive.

I just wish I knew which website gave my email address to spammers.
