Hi Guys,

Instead of flooding the existing Useful Apps thread with app requests, perhaps it would be better to have a dedicated thread where one could ask for app suggestions.

The point of "Android Useful Apps" was to list new useful apps.

I am looking for an app that allows one to mark a location (GPS) on a map. It must be able to work offline.

My parents goes fishing in Namibia every other year, they would like to be able to mark a good spot on a 150km coastline...

I had a look at SpotMarker, but the map doesn't seem to be offline.

What is best alternative to WiFi Finder by JiWire Inc. for finding free wi-fi in South Africa. Where people can update the database with locations ?

Cheers

Maybe look at Maverick

I normally use it to plot path's, might be what you looking for.

Edit: Also Google maps/Nav still have offline mode, you just have to type "OK Maps" to cache the area on you screen. So you can zoom desired level, click search and type OK maps to cache all of the map data for the area you looking at. Zoom back in when done and have that level mapped out and cached. Google maps can then still be used to place private markers on cached area.

GPS Essentials. Has the added advantage that you can record tracks. Only downside is that you need to cache the maps to the required scale before going offline. The author is also really excellent at responding to queries on his google group.

Excellent tip bud!

Will I be able to search the cached map without a data connection?

Can anyone recommend a functional, usable camera app that has long exposure settings built in?
Are you sure you actually want that? With long exposures, the device is going to get rather hot and your pic is going to be pretty noisy. Even lower end dslrs pick up plenty of noise at anything over a second.

Good point. Maybe one with adjustable shutter speeds, then. I'd be more than happy with a 1s shutter speed on a device. The useless stock app doesn't even allow ISO adjustment, and it is becoming rather annoying.

Hi there, i am looking for a camera / app that can only show certain colors like blue / red when taking a photo on the phone. TIA

I've been looking for an app that can switch off my 3g and switch on Wifi.
I know there are a few in google play store, but which one?

What do you guys use?

Llama or Tasker

btw 3g is off when wifi is on.

Thanks but not what I'm looking for.
The problem I'm having with my Wifi on my SGS2 is that when I switch the Wi-Fi on, it does not come on, but the icon goes partially green. Now it won't switch off! So I have to reboot!

I've tried going into settings and switching Wifi on there, but have the same problem.

So I'm looking for an app that will switch Wifi on or off without me having to reboot everytime.

Sounds like a problem with your s2. I never had that issue with mine. Perhaps a factory reset is in order?
