Android app stole private data from millions

is there any checks in the the android market? like even user rating/comments?

and can't you change your background manually?

Fark....if you click on a exe in your mailbox...shame on you....
if you install that app, maybe your not ready for a smartphone :)

How do I differentiate between apps that legitimately need Phone State (for backward compatibility) and Internet Access and one that uses it maliciously? A fair number of apps are ad-supported, and for the ad system to work you need to have both of those, in addition to location.

Some developers bind the IMEI/IMSI to their own database to ensure you don't install the app on more than one phone.

There is a rating/comment system for Android apps in Google's market, and most other markets I've seen has a similar system in place.

You can also change the background manually.

Cyrket will give you a good idea of what the Android market shows you.
Once you click download, it shows you which permissions would be required by the app.

Drukkie:
As per the links - this specific app in actual fact did nothing malicious.
