Android Auto is awesome and I use it every day

You had me at "reads whatsapp messages". Installing.

Also the new verison of Google maps (rolling out), is supposed to allow you to control your music (Spotify etc.) from within the maps app. Assume that will work via AA too. Even cooler.

I haven't had that particular problem but on a related note when Siri reads out emojis in full literal terms I laugh my ass off every time.
 
I've had it running for sometime. For some odd reason it used to read my WhatsApp messages then it just stopped. Now only reads my smses only. I uninstalled and reinstalled again, no changes.

I've been using it on my phone via bluetooth since middle 2018 (downloaded apk in those days) and love it.
Their website lists vehicles that support it and I found some Android based audio decks like Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood, Alpine, JVC etc for aftermarket installations. These range from 7" up to 10" DIN and Double DIN.
We found that some older vehicles with screens run on Windows CE and may need a firmware update (done via USB memory stick) to work via USB cable to the phone for the display functions.
It also allows for selecting the other Music Apps installed on your phone to play the music from.
In the mornings as I walk out of the door, I ask Google Assistant how traffic is on the way to work to which she verbally tells me and the sets a link on screen to start driving. When I connect to the bluetooth in car, AA opens and simply continues the trip.
Love it.

Really works great with Ford Sync 3 though I find that I prefer Ford's maps over Google.

Reading messages as they come in is nice and being able to reply with voice while talking is cool as well. Just don't expect much in terms of Afrikaans.
 
Downloaded the APK and used it a few times (over the past year or so).

Every version improves but the last time I tried, I still wasn't completely happy, some of my apps were clashing.

Will give it another try.
 
Did not know my car could do this - thank you, started using it this morning - I love it when I come across articles like this - sucks being a village idiot sometimes
