Im looking for a solution to my A/V setup, its going to be a bit complex but I'll keep it as simple as possible.

Ok, we currently have a old Pioneer VSX-D512-S, which is working perfectly but we are going to be adding an Android Box, this amp wont work as I need to have HDMI ARC but we will get to this later.

The main issue is that my dad is hard of hearing so our current setup is: TV-> HDMI -> DSTV explora 2A -> Optical out-> Amp -> 3.5 cable -> Headphones

Which is fine, now we need to add in a Android TV box which will need to supply the TV and amp with sound.

The TV doesnt have an ARC port (will double check but doubt) nor does it have Optical out, it has Coaxial out.

So what I need is an Amp that can switch between the Optical cable for the DSTV and HDMI for the android box without having to unplug anything.

Android box is a Xiaomi Mi Box S
Not really clued up with this, thanks.

What audio output does your tv have?

Im thinking digital audio out of tv and convert it to analog going into the amp -amp to speakers.

mi box and explora hdmi input to tv.
or bin the explora and install dstv now on mi box.

TV has HDMI,AV,Component and digital Coaxial (orange) port.

Got similar running here,but my amp doesn't take optical,so using a optical->RCA dac from TV,so any input to telly gets audio output to the amp rather than fluff converting multiple inputs

Im just speculating but I just need something like an HDMI passthrough amp or something.

Android box -> HDMI-> Amp -> HDMI -> TV?

The ARC doesnt carry Visual signals does it?

If it does then im sorted:

Android box -> HDMI -> Amp -> ARC -> HDMI -> TV

If your dad is only one watching, he can use a bluetooth headphones to connect to the android box

One of the best Android boxes out there is the Zidoo UHD2000 . But not cheap at over $800. Runs Android and OpenWRT in parallel so you also use it as a file server.

If I make use if the S/PDIF (RCA) cable to go into the TV from the port labeled Digital in (DVD) then i plug the Android box into the TV via HDMI will it play to both the receiver and TV?
