Android in for a tough time - analysts

Am I the only one that thinks that this only a minor setback for Samsung?

a) $1billion is a lot of money but a pittance compared with the many billions Samsung have in excess, the true setback would have been a recall of devices which didn't happen, to me I think that's the bare minimum Apple received in that verdict and with a chance to appeal Samsung can whittle away the final amount payable

b) Samsung were copiers, we saw it in there cars and we saw it in the tech, today they are a true economic powerhouse with tech in every room, its a time they start innovating and this lawsuit will see it create world class products

Naive?

If you can't beat your competitor with sales, take them to court. What fun will there be in sinking ure competition and being the only one in the market. Apple are complimenting windows mobile for doing their own thing but look at their sales figure. All these companies are using the open source communities hard work and their not giving anything back. Ios, mac os and android based on linux. And what is the verdict? Androids overall "feel" to much like ios.

ios and mac os are based on linux?

I didnt know that.

The problem is if samsung are ordered to change the design of their handsets or android to change the look of the os that might filter through to the consumer as higher cost for their future handsets

That is quite doubtful. Mobile phones are highly price sensitive and consumers just refuse to pay for added R&D cost. It will be absorbed by the companies.

Yeah, damn that Samsung for copying the S3 from .. uhm .. uhm .. yeah, nobody.

When last have Apple innovated except for the basic idea of the iPhone? Incremental changes to existing features isn't exactly innovation. Neither is stealing ideas from your own developers.

Indeed, the whole world waits on Apple's conference calls to see how derivative their latest products are going to be and how they will totally fail to radicalise the technology landscape or invent new markets out of hitherto-underdeveloped concepts.

Apple seeks to ban sale of eight Samsung phones in US

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19388633
Apple has asked a court to ban eight Samsung mobile phones in the US.

The phones include the Galaxy S 4G, Galaxy S2 AT&T model, Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, Galaxy S2 T-Mobile model, Galaxy S2 Epic 4G, Galaxy S Showcase, Droid Charge and Galaxy Prevail.

Does this mean we might be getting cheaper Galaxy S2s soon? :D

The scary part is that while you are being sarcastic that is partly true.

Who's saying that? We're just saying that some analysts are dumb. Samsung v Apple has nothing really to do with the future of the Android OS. Just as a lawsuit between Asus and Gigabyte would have no impact on the future of Windows.
fixed

learn the difference

Most of the sources I read do mention that Samsung will be appealing the decision. It's also no use to pretend that Apple didn't just win a major court case ? Or at the very least are 1 massive one up on Samsung in this saga ?

You understand how the appeals process works? Nothing from this court case will be enforceable as long as there is an appeal lodged.
So Apple and their fanbois can dance and sing as much as they want, only time will tell what the actual future outcome will be.

I understand Apple jumping up and down hell if i worked there i'd throw a party every day for the rest of the week :D

But the isheep bobbing up and down ? :wtf:

So basically nothing happened ?

hahaha! If apple existed in the Star Trek universe. Just shows how stupid patents are.

I never gonna buy an apple anything just based on principle, I think this law suit is ridiculous, patenting shapes? really now

There was a court case and a verdict. But whether that verdict will actually have any impact yet in the real world remains to be seen... and we won't see any impact for quite a few more years yet.

The only actual result on the ground will be a few cosmetic changes from Samsung and Google to their products.

American patroism

American court
American judge
American jury
American company

Samsung had no chance, but watch them go thermo nuclear in sales

If I had a few million I would invest it all with Samsung, especially now with the lower stock price ;-)

So the verdict going Apple's way does not mean they have won the court case ? I do indeed have little understanding of legal matters, but anybody with a little common sense already knows that Samsung aren't just going to roll over and just surrender.
