Hi All,

At the end of my contract term I am considering switching to an Android from my BlackBerry 9780.
I enjoy the BlackBerry, (had only Nokia's previously, so I guess even BB OS is a step up from Symbian).
Since I have got my BlackBerry I have literally set up everything to push to me instantly, from Emails, to Facebook, to Twitter, to Facebook Chat. I am worried that when I move to Android I am going to rack up a huge bill on data with all that I want to do. (I browse a lot on the phone also, MyBroadband News, IOL, News24) and other sites during the dday.

I would just roughly like to know how much data most of you use on your Android / iOS phones throughout a month?
I have heard cases where Windows OS phones are using almost 100MB without even syncing more than emails!!

Luckily, my phone will switch to WiFi when at home.

Regards

I have Android device set up to use wifi & home(or whereever available) & 3g for the rest. Get emails, browse a little & use Facebook, etc. Use about 100mb a month so far, but I do make sure to terminate apps that use background data when on 3G. Also, some cell operaters are supposedly planning data plans similar to BB for Android soon...

Which rumour mill did you get that out of? I have a Nokia N8 also from a competition, pitty the OS on there is so crap. Would have been like a Galaxy if if had Android

I'm using about 3mb during the day just with sync and push apps running (gmail, whatsapp, calendar, facebook, maps/latitude), but I switch to Wi-Fi when I get home. So around 100MB a month maybe? And I buy a 100MB data bundle for R49 - cheaper than BB access fee.

Sounds good. Does Android allow Whatsapp to be switched on and off. On Symbian^3 on my Nokia N8, Whatsapp cannot be disabled without uninstalling, or using a 3rd party task manager to end whatsapp.exe (no jokes). It also used to half the battery life. What is the battery life difference on your phone (Which Android phone are you using)

I have the galaxy with 500mb data bundle. This month I left the data connection on and still only upto 300Mb with a few days to go. But have turned off auto sync on most apps. This includes browsing, apps downloads and updates. I dont think its that bad anymore. Most months if I am vigilant it would be less than 100 MB.

Whatsapp has no battery usage issue with android, meaning you can install it and forget about it and it won't affect battery at all, only if you use it a lot, your display will eat your battery. I have an SGS2 and (with a lot of mods) I get 2 days on a charge with moderate use, including about an hour of video a day.
