Hypothetically, if someone moved across - what would the impact ?

I've read that WhatsApp history is stored in different locations on iOS / Android ?
Does Google Photos work exactly the same ie snap a photo and automatically uploaded ?
Any other issue that people have faced ?
Contacts ?

Last I checked there is no official way to transfer WhatsApp history between iOS and Android. There are "unofficial" ways but I honestly don't trust those.

Works the same, iOS is a bit more conservative doing things in the background so you must enable background app refresh for the app, even with this enabled I do find background photo uploads can be a bit behind at times.

Not for my use. I've been enjoying iOS over Android - nothing I really miss.

Whatsapp history isnt transferrable yet, iOS stores that in iCloud so the two arent compatible.
Other than that its all about the same really, it just comes down to device and OS preferences.

I moved over about a year or so ago and Apple has given a transfer app which attempts to find iOS versions of all your android apps, transfers things like WiFi and whatnot so does the bulk of it for you.

WhatsApp convo will be gone but I deleted the app soon after that anyway.

I moved off all Google services, while they work just fine, Google does limit some of their apps annoyingly.

I saw no point using Google and iCloud photos, what was on Google is still there, but added nothing new after a few weeks of using and realizing in some ways apples photos app is nice and more feature rich in ways that matter every day.

While you loose things like customizations, automations via shortcuts can be a bit daft, I find given the lack of bloatware, better photos and overall more polishing and consistent apps, incl 3rd party actually make it an all round better and smoother experience.

The fact that should I choose too, this phone will still be getting updates in 5 years time is a nice touch, and you get it when it comes out instead of a few months later if you lucky with all these disconnected manufacturers.

It’s really true, it’s a walled garden and the more you climb into apple, services and hardware, the better the overall experience, the inter connectivity is something I don’t see android getting anytime ever, not until they can control the entire ecosystem.

Impact is quite... impactful. Firstly no official ways to transfer whatsapp over. There are unofficial ways as mentioned above but you will find this out after its too late. Depending on what you use your device for it will be a mission to find alternative iOS apps for what you had on Android. All in all be prepared to spend money investing in apps because Apple charges for everything including dust cloth.

Do you need iTunes ?
yes, and to create an Itunes account you need to give Tim Cook your address (no jokes)
and you need to forget about ever loading your own songs without plugging it in to Itunes and copying it that way, or buy it off Apple music store.

then Whatsapp as many have said, Telegram strangely works,
and every so often iphone just randomly slowing down and chowing Battery like a Fat kid at a candy store, because you didn't buy a new one when Apple said you must.

you know, just general pain and suffering, thankfully I'm quite fortunate to have one from Work, and had a "test drive"
and will never in a billion years buy one, even if it fell off the back of a truck and cost me nothing.

Point of order:

Devs charge for their apps... Apple provide a marketplace and take a commission.

If you could show me the iTunes app on an iPhone, that would be great.

Don't you ever get get tired of posting ignorant crap?

So, I'm really keen on phone camera quality - and (without starting an argument), Huawei have had the better camera and in general, they really have fantastic hardware. However, I dropped my phone and it now has a large crack over the screen so although, usable, I may need to upgrade after all this time .

Looking at the list of the top camera phones, it seems iPhone is the best balance as the units above it can't be had on contract (and tough to find locally). The S21 is a very good camera, but it seems not quite up there on the camera (albeit, it's a year behind) and more expensive than the iPhone. I've read the S22 is going to be even more expensive .

Plus, I think Huwaei is the only Android maker (or one of the few) to use Face ID ... which I like the idea of

No you don't - can't remember the last time I used itunes

I hear 2010 calling - just about everyone uses either Apple Music or Spotify to listen to music these days

What a load of nonsense - by the time your iPhone battery is degraded to that point it's really not expensive to replace the battery only. Hell, my wife is still using her 4.5-year-old iPhone 7+ with its original battery without complaint. Still get's the latest updates (currently on iOS 15.2) even though it was originally released in September 2016

Sad really.

I did the switch early last year, and it was fairly seamless. I used this for Whatsapp:

I paid, and it moved every single chat, photo and video.

Everything I did on my Samsung S20+, I do on my iPhone 12.

The only thing I did not like about iPhone is the keyboard, I liked the Samsung version. Downloading Gboard, mostly solved that.
