Why does Android not support proxy settings? Any student or corporate user need to connect to internet at work through some sort of proxy server. Major FAIL on Android not to support proxies!

Any workaround to get proxy settings recognised on Android? Will support for proxy be included in future software/OS releases?

On my Galaxy S with Android 2.1:
Settings -> Wireless and network -> Wi-Fi settings -> (Press menu key) -> Advanced.
There is a proxy setting there.

Android has supported proxy for a long time. Only from 1.6 was it reasonably simple to get to. Running 2.1 at moment, and it's definitely there.

My Galaxy Spica does running a 2.1 (JH1) does not have proxy settings

Anybody tried Orbot? I don't know when again I will be somewhere where I can test if it works, so let us know if it works!

Nope, according to the official Google Code Android project site, proxy is not supported by default, yet. Also see here and here.

I'm not talking about proxy for 3G, but for LAN and WiFi. Not supported.

Seems Galaxy S supports it for WIFI, even on 2.1. Touch menu button under wifi settings and you can enter proxy
