Android phone backup

Hi,
My friend needs some help in backing up her phone before a factory reset,
I am planning to connect it to an external usb c hard disk, and use the Sandisk memory zone app to do the backup
Is this a good plan?
Will it copy everything?
Is there a better tool to use?

Connect to google account. Move over all files to Google Drive. Make sure contacts are backed up. There are probably some android apps that can help install all the same apps.

Most apps save to the cloud. Do WhatsApp backup it will also save to Drive.

You could also save all the data to hard drive, but cloud is easier.
