I was asked in another thread how I got Android in VBox so I thought it might be better to give it a thread of its own:

You can download the iso's from http://www.android-x86.org/download

Use eeepc.iso's

Settings for the Machine
  • Memory: 512,
  • GPU Memory: 16,
  • Sound: Sound Blaster 16,
  • Network: PCnet-Fast III

Remember to disable Mouse integration, Use Click to capture.

Reason some might like this is that unlike the Android SDK, images can be suspended and started with in seconds, also animation is a lot smoother than some found in SDK's emulator.

For more information check out http://www.android-x86.org/documents/virtualboxhowto

Been using it for ICS but very buggy as it doesn't half the phone features in the VM

It seems stable enough for me, and handles all that I need: Test our apps interaction with our data servers so not really bothered about much of the features that it doesnt have.

Besides its a hell of a lot better than the one that came with the SDK. I just can not handle the stutter on it.

Doesn't the Android SDK still come with an emulator? Haven't played with it for a while but it was quite good I thought. Why would you want to emulate it in a x86 environment?

The SDK does come with an emulator but as I pointed out already, it does not support suspend and quick boot. Also if your apps are architecture independent who cares what environment its in.

Also the SDK kinda of sucks swapping between different OS's for every test. I like the compile once test Manny approach without creating different projects or editing confute all the time.

End of the day it should not bother you any way. If you don't like the info here don't use it, it doesn't mean others don't.
