Networks come the freak on! I have no interest in blackberry phones but the unlimited data plan is a God sent, we need something like this for Android! R60 is a giveaway, all we have ie MTN is R49 for 75mb or something, no one got jokes like this!

I think that part of the BB phone cost price subsidises some of the data. For example the 8520 is not worth its price, its just the fact that its a BB that makes it sell. And technically, BIS isn't true unlimited. Its unlimited browsing and email. And there's restrictions to the file sizes of the attachments of the emails.

I personally dont own a BB and considering the xperia x10 mini pro. I dont think that I would use more than 75mb on my phone a month, so I wouldn't go for an AIS(Android Internet Service). But people with no internet access at home would consider it.

My android is very happy without having data. Only use wifi at home which is almost never really. Unless I want some apps from the market.

But unlike BBs we have big screens with good web browsers, Androids can generally be much more data hungry. We'll rape the crappy networks and they'll slow down to a crawl! As it is BBs seem to suffer from crappy speeds due to being a lower priority on the network, to stop them from bringing everything down.
We do need some kind of proper data deals, for everyone. Hopefully the network upgrades will bring something decent.

Maybe all the networks have some sort of direct connection to some blackberry servers

although if you're an android user, you should have wifi at home (for all your data intense activities like downloading new apps/games etc)

i find 75mb a month for facebook, the odd Google and Wikipedia and Gmail quite alright, although i am not a power user, and nor do i get 200 emails a day.

I'm not saying that i would prefer it over some sort of BIS for android

Data deals for Android are certainly needed, but not to the point where a BIS of sorts is created for Android.
Then there'll be certain degredation of the "network" and crappy speeds.
Data prices in general need to come down in the 3G realm and that's the only way forward.

I'm fortunate that I've won a CellC 21Mbps dongle with 5GB for a year (Thanks MyBB and CellC). I've simply thrown that sim in my SGS and feel like I'm in the UK or Korea with no care in the world wrt data consumption.

Hopefully prices will come down in the next 12 months so that I can sustain my carefree usage when the time comes :D

its true. data prices for wireless broadband are insane. but this is not exclusive to SA, its the same worldwide. Verizon used to have unlimited wireless data with a 5gb Fair Usage Policy (IIRC) now they scrapped it.

Yeah, like I've still got a little over 2GB to go this month, but will plunder through it in the coming days.
Got a friend of mine in the UK to setup an FTP for me :D

5GB seems like it's enough for my needs.
I don't really p2p and movies and series that I need, I get from friends and colleagues.

I wonder, how does BB afford to offer this plan? Well not BB but the networks on behalf of BB?
Blackberry data is limited in they ways you can use it (small downloads, no tethering, etc) and highly compressed so you probably dont use a fraction of what an unfettered smartphone user would go through.

I use about 200mb a month with wifi at home and at work.

I use less than one hundred megs on my phone thanks to my household wifi. That comes in at fifty bucks on cell c. Who needs bis? And if you don't have wifi just spend the money and get a cell c 2 gig package.

All a great help, many thanks! My mate has a curve and he downloads songs and more songs! Virtually albums.... @60 pm I'm sold. Any case my boet-in-law has mweb uncapped and I used wi-fi to connect to the net... was the first time I did something like this so I downloaded like craze! Now maybe the best thing for me is to get mweb uncapped but oi cell c is stealing my heart lol, would I just pop the sim into my fone or create a some kind of wireless connection from pc to my phone... I have like a 200mb pm VMC (from my dad's work), could I make this work?

Jislak my Android phone is so hungry for Interwebs, would love to see something like this

I am on a My Meg 500 advanced with VC ... I had to get more data, as I browse the internet a lot and use it to surf/post/discuss MyBB using the Android app.

just a question, is it unlimited data for just emails and some social networking sites? or is it for everything? O_O

My android and iPhone are both on wifi at home and work. I would be very poor if they weren't! An unlimited plan would be great.

Unlimited Data would be great, i buy 2.3GB of data for my X10 monthly, as i do a ton of web browsing, YouTube streaming and downloading, Social Networking (FB, Twitter and WhatsApp), Email and app/game/music downloading. It's great to have a droid, but our networks are clearly not completely prepared for these type of smartphones, they require their own package.
