Animal Planet goes 24 hours

From Friday February 13 2009, animal and nature lovers across South Africa can now enjoy more drama, intrigue, suspense and emotionally inspiring programming when Animal Planet goes to a 24 hour broadcast.

The well loved Animal Planet on DStv’s Channel 264, promises more gripping viewing with a mix of new programmes such as Untamed and Uncut and loyal favourites; Big Cat Diaries and Lemur Street. Prominent in the line up are programmes with a South African focus, including Meerkat Manor, Game Ranger Diaries, and Animal Cops South Africa.

Loyal viewers can look forward to raw footage, from the captivating beauty of nature, to the unfolding of nail biting drama, watching the fittest fight for survival.

“We are delighted with the extension in viewing hours of Animal Planet. The channel visually explores the intriguing and complex relationship between mankind and the animal kingdom. With the channel introducing a 24 hour feed, this will enhance the knowledge and feed the fascination of its already loyal viewer base”, says Aletta Alberts MultiChoice General Manager: Content.

Nature and animal lovers can also look forward to the most remarkable animal footage ever to be recorded. Whale Wars, which covers the controversial whaling trade from the point of view of both the traders and the environmental activists who try to stop them, and Dark Days in Monkey City, which blends live action and the latest animation techniques to dramatise the ongoing struggle of the endangered Sri Lankan Temple Monkey. Also new is the docu-soap, Jockey, which gives the inside track on horse racing.

The much loved programmes Meercat Manor 4, Most Extreme 4, Big Cat Diaries 7,and Animal Cops Houston 1, are also now in their new season. Viewers can enjoy these on the 24 hour channel. The channel seeks to personalize content for the different territories, allowing viewers to enjoy home grown content.

And in dreamland : Multichoice has announced the return of the much loved Scifi channel, this will run for 24 hours a day, with all new stuff, or atleast the stuff you ge ton the american and uk version of the scifi channel!!

Should we all jump up and down in excitement at once? Thought not.
We pretty much subscribe to DSTV for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. (I realise this is very sad )

This is still running in the states, however we are receiving repeats of episodes which are years old. Go figure.
