Ooooh, that 1400 is such a looker!

Whatever is happening with Yamaha, seems they are not as interested in the audio space anymore. Denon is kicking everybody's behind.

they are for the bedrooms & study.

lounge has martin logan, dining room has magnapan spkrs, running off a krell amp and preamp.
study has beolab spkrs.
most of the stuff was my father's - i took it after he died. despite my love for music, i draw the line at paying insane money of audio equipment.
a lot of it is in the store room, amongst it is a nakamichi dat player i've been meaning to haul out and muck around with.

so no, a yamaha soundbar is not exactly the right thing to place on display.
yamaha for keeping up appearances is a little like driving around bishopscourt in a jetta with lowered suspension and freeflow exhaust, trying to keep up appearances in the land of the jaguar and aston martin

I think they are very much in the audio space still, just not the speaker space as much.

i knew there was a subwoofer buried in the store room.
off i went in search, sweating and swearing, i eventually unearthed it.
took longer to find the correct cable, but i eventually emerged from the cave of terror very pleased with myself.

took a while to get right.
the sound projector comes with a microphone to help get the best settings for the particular environment.
sounds rather delicious now !

i'm finally pleased (for now)
it has to end now - soon enough i'll be selling my nought at the dry docks so i can buy 2m of van den hul cabling !!

some may think i have some kind of fetish - yet another soundbar.
this time a polk (magnifi) - just the soundbar, no subwoofer etc - it is for the tv in a guest bedroom.

but again, at a fraction of retail price (it is 2 months old)
it's no looker - unlike the yamaha - very utilitarian look to it, but it sounds good enough !

for anybody contemplating buying a soundbar:

was fiddling about with the soundbars earlier.
for some reason i had the misconception the polk would sound the best - clean & crisp
this is the polk:


turns out the polk falls very short of any of the yamahas

went to each of them, same 3 tracks of music, played through each soundbar alone - no subwoofers or anything connected.
polk took last place...

polk is also rather "iffy" when coming to setup - they are heavily reliant on google home / alexa.
i find this odd as polk is a sound company, whereas yamaha makes outboard motors, motorbikes and all other things.
i would have thought being a sound company everything would be "inhouse", not reliant on external 3rd party companies for setup purposes.

so it has been set up, but google home cannot connect to it anymore - it is "greyed out" in the app, and unable to connect, however the wifi connection between the phone to the router, to apple tv (airplay) to polk is solid.
this appears to be a common complaint about polk / google home.
yamaha on the other hand, is stand-alone and inhouse.

they all come in at a similar price.
i would most definitely not buy another polk soundbar, i would absolutely buy yamaha again.

a bit of a caveat here - yamaha refer to some of their soundbars as sound projectors - i now understand why
