So as most of you know, I bought an SX1 about 1 month and a half back to replace my damaged Canon SX110 (died at 13 months ...).

The bad luck farity hit me again and my new camera refused to focus (half press) or open shutter earlier when I used it :/ Everything 100% - no drops, knocks, bumps and I was in fact using it when it stopped *sigh*

Took it in and they're going to have a look - but I'm hoping they decide to give me a new one rather than replace. In that case I *may* pay in the R3,000.00 and get te 550D with 18-55mm lens ... but all up to them. I've learnt the limits (fairly quickly) of a P&S.

Am I just having bad luck with Canon?

However - my last photo was pretty cool I thought ;)

I've had some Canon P&S cameras die, but it took years of use, often in unfriendly conditions like damp and definitely a lot of exposure to dust.

Sorry about the camera, but your photography is superb!

Bad luck. Hope they can fix your camera.

I've never had any issues with Canon P&S - and I've had a few. Bad luck I guess, or someone is trying to tell you something...

/softly whispers DSLR, DSLR, DSLR...

LOL - I want to - and will - get the 550D ;)

But I'd still like to have a bridge as an every day or something to have decent quality, decent zoom and easy to carry ;)

You see my pic though with my SX1? Thought it was fairly decent considering my limitations with the camera

Just an update :

When I got home I thought R10,000.00 in 14 months on two Canons - both failing - was pretty upsetting and decided to email both the store (Cats Digital) and Canon SA. Expecting to never hear from them, I was pleasantly surprised when someone from Canon SA contacted me this morning and offered to give a brand new camera in the interests of keeping a happy customer.

Fantastic service I thought - and not much hesitation in buying another Canon knowing that the company does protect and back its clients!

Wow, that is great service!!!
I'll have to admit that Canon does have better customer service than Nikon presently in SA. :o

You can always also contact Roger Machin. He is the Product Manager of Canon Camera's in South Africa.
